  • Favourite Authors

Somewhere on the grapevine, can't remember where, I read a thread concerning the growing of unusual vegetables. Among those listed was the exploding cucumber. Now I know that there is a vine which bares a fruit which when ripe ejects its seeds by exploding when touched but I remember reading about a deadly form of exploding cucumber in a book entitled 'The Fourth Bear' by Jasper Fforde.

That got me wondering, we all share a love of growing fruit and veg but do we have similar taste in other things; such as literature.

My favourite authors are, in no particular order:
    Jasper Fforde
    Christopher Brookmyre
    Carl Hiaasen
    Stephen Fry
    Mark Gattiss
    Ian Banks
    Kate Atkinson
and Ian McEwan, especially his earlier work

    What are yours?
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Love Jasper Fforde, wasn't that keen on The Fourth Bear, or The Big Over Easy, but hey.

                        Others I like:

                        Tom Holt
                        David Mitchell
                        Stanley Pottinger
                        Early James Herbert
Stephen King (although recent books have been hit and miss)

Can't think of any others at the moment.

I did English Lit for Alevel then French Lit at uni and kind of wore myself out reading heavy stuff... Now I tend to only read Chick Lit! I love it as it's so brain off.
Faves would have to include Jilly Cooper, Marion Keyes and such like.

                            janeyo

I do like James Herbert too.

My faves are James Herbert, Dick Francis, James Patterson & John Grisham, though I must confess that Enid Blyton from my childhood is probably my all time favourite - I recently bought my daughter the full set of "Twins at Mallery Towers" books and have re-read them - took me back 30 years!!!
