David Eddings can be good, but David Gemmel is better! I just wish he had written a few more!
I also like some of the 'darker' detective stories
Scarpetta (Patricia Cornwell) and Lincoln Rhyme (Jeffery Deaver) are both fascinating, if gruesome.
Mary Higgins Clarke still usually manages to fool me for a lot of the book.
