  • Gone a bit mad with psb...

OOPS, after being told (on here I think) that I would need about 6 plants for a family of 4 for PSB I decided to give it a go and am going to put some in the flower beds as we don't have many flowers yet and the weeds are taking over. Plus the raised beds for veg are quite small and I don't want them tied up all winter.
My germination rate for most things has been a bit hit and miss so I planted a seed tray up not expecting much.....

Have just spent an hour and a half nearly potting on the plants before they go out in the beds. If I put them out now I will prob just weed them out again so will wait a bit.

However, all of them germinated and I ended up with 41 plants!

The almost empty coldframe is now full to bursting again!

And OH doesn't even really like the stuff.......

How would I package them up for ebay? OH normally does the ebay thing for me but never done anything with plants.

I hope the look pretty in the beds and hopefully with other flowers etc around might fool the pigeons!

I think you have overdone it a bit JaneYo. Sometimes you just have to be brave and say I just need 4 (or whatever) and put the rest on the compost heap. You know it makes sense.

I do have quite a large garden (160 feet by 50) although not all flower border!
I think once they get a bit bigger I will get as many in as I can, the neighbours are happy to eat our eggs so I guess they would like some produce too! I spose I can always give some to the chooks too esp over winter when greens and grass are scarcer. Failing that I will have a lovely purple tinge to the garden next spring!

I wish I was closer- I can't get the PSB to germinate at all this year. Everything else grows fine, so perhaps I have a dodgy batch of seed. Even so, would be happy to take 3 or 4 off you if I was in the area!

I put in 20 seeds (for my family of 2 adults who like brocolli and a toddler who doesn't!!) - 19 of those germinated. But I reckon we will use it all if I have enough room to plant it all - will probably get at least 12 plants in.

I got 15 plants from suttons last autumn, and they are only cropping in the last month or so, but we are really enjoying it and no gluts so far (some of the plants aren't croppping yet).
