Have you ever misunderstood something which you now understand and can laugh about?

I emptied my coffee pot onto one of my roses today and it reminded me how my great grandparents always used to empty tea leaves (in the days before t-bags) onto their roses. It then occured to me that I had always thought that was why roses were called tea roses when I was young!

Another gem; I was asked to clean the bathroom when I was around 10 years old for the first time by myself. My Mum directed me to the cupboard under the sink for cleaners and cloths and left me with the words "Make sure you use plenty of elbow grease" A littler while later she returned to find the bathroom still dirty and the contents of the cupboard out all over the floor whilst I searched for that dammed elbow grease! - perhaps thats why I cant stand cleaning now - LOL

When my grandchild was little she thought that the large cooling towers with steam coming out of them were cloud making factory's. Bless.

When I was little, my dad and uncle used to tell me that sheep eating on the side of the hill had two legs shorter than the others. I think that's quite a common thing to tell children though.

Funny - I was never told that as a child. Perhaps my parents knew I wouldnt fall for it.

When I lived in France I lived with a really dappy (but lovely) friend who thought that as we could only get UHT milk it was because there were no cows in France!

Raspberry pips! My OH has been trying to convince me for years that raspberry jam makers have a little old man sat out back whittling tree trunks into raspberry pips to add to the jam - brings it up whenever I complain about how many pips there are in raspberry jam!!

When the local farmer let the bull in with the cows we used to ask my mum what they were doing - and she told us they were 'loving each other' - the stupid thing is that even though I am now aware that love has nothing to do with it - if I ever see a bull mounting a cow I always think 'ahhhh - they're loving each other!!!' doh!

Ah that brings back memories. We've got family in Wales and my dad used to say that when we went there! More sheep than people, so he was always saying it

I was told that the pips in strawberry jam were grass seed.
Why????? I have no idea!

In my usiversity summer hols I used to work in a cake factory - the raspberry jam there was definitely artificially - it hadn't been within a mile of fruit. It was said to be made of carrots, well stewed, with sugar, colouring and, yes, no little old man, but definitely wood chipping!


PS - the 'cream' was lard and icing sugar! Haven't bought a cake since!
