Fit an ADSL socket on your BT master socket, much easier, I have.

Never seen anyone complaining about them like they do microfilters - do you have a link I can read?

I've been having problems getting online & staying online recently & AOL just keep telling me it's because of 'traffic' too many people in our area are going online at once. They told me I should try going wireless & that may help but as I've got an old P.C. that would mean buying a card & opening it up to fit it & I don't fancy that so am plodding along until I decide to invest in a new computer or maybe a laptop.
Didn't know that about the filters wearing out though so I'll bear that in mind too.

You can buy usb wifi adapter, no need to open the PC up, assuming you have usb ports. But I don't see how going wireless will help, that won't reduce the number of people online.

They are adaptions to the BT master socket faceplate. They have two socket one for ADSL and one for phone - It means if you've lots of phone extensions you don't need seperate micro-filters on each.

I don't think you're supposed to change the BT faceplate but if you had a BT engineer out it's what they'd use. They adsl faceplate supposedly helps with line noise (that might be affecting your BB speed), but there is also info on one of the sites about removing a ring wire that can affect speed/noise too.

The problem is with AOL they are changing everyone over to the carphone warehouse servers. However, they will not admit that this is the problem and tell people that their computers are the problem. Be very vary of anything they tell you, other people have spent money needlessly due to bad advice from the aol call centre. There are lots of postings about this on other forums, I am currently with AOL and am also experiencing problems. If you change to wireless they will tie you into a new contract for 18 months.
If you tell them that you want a MAC code to leave they will try and sell you anything to tie you into another contract with them. I am going to give it a couple of months and if nothing changes will be going to another broadband supplier.

Capsid, thanks for the info, I'll try that if I decide to go wireless but as you say I don't know how that's supposed to help.

Borage, I fell for the '18 months new contract' line a few months ago, I kept complaining & was offered a new contract for only £9.99 a month & as we had been paying something like £17.99 I accepted it. I do think AOL try & fob you off all the time now & try & make out all the problems are at your end but I did phone once & they'd had to put a message on the answering machine saying that they had a technical problem & no one could get online for about 24 hours. Since they changed all the systems over to 'Dial bb' & moved the control offices & call centres etc. nothing seems to be going right.
