Hi everyone,
i know this is a strange title for a topic on gardening, but I'm hoping someone might be able to help me.
I currently use Soap nuts in my washing machine and I want to know if it would be safe to use the grey water from my machine to water my vegetable beds. We have bought a very large water tank and I've checked that this water is ok to store, but I have read that soap nuts can be used to create an insecticide which can be used on aphids. I'm concerned that even though the soap nuts are a natural product and would be fairly diluted once the wash and rinse cycle have finished, the water might be harmful to other insects etc in the soil. Does anyone know where I can find out more information about this.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Also I've been reading an old book of my mothers and it recommends crumbling moth balls onto Carrot and brassica beds to deter carrot and brassica fly. Im reluctant to crumble them on the bed, but anyone know if hanging them around the beds would work?
(they have to be the old fashioned Camphor ones and not the modern ones which use artificial chemicals)
