  • Feeling sorry for myself!

I had great plans for today - down at the lottie planting lots and lots of plants (far to many to mention!).

Woke up this morning to find I've trapped a nerve or something in my neck and shoulder and am walking around like quasimodo!

I'm well fed up. OH just rang me from work to tell me off for overdoing things (yes, hes right) and he's offered to come and give me a hand tomorrow. Isn't that nice? Also, the weather forecast is better tomorrow than today.

Shame I don't watch football, I could watch what I think is an important match today between Cardiff and Portsmouth!

Sorry to winge everyone, but feel better for getting this off my chest! I suppose another good thing is that I can't really do any housework either! Must rest my shoulder to make sure I'm OK tomorrow!

Hope everyone has a good Saturday!

Thanks for listening. Bernie aka DDL

Hope it gets better soon Bernie - like you say, the forecast is better for tomorrow anyway.

I'm just sat here wondering what to do today - horrible when you don't have any plans isn't it. However, the rest of our weekends are pretty much booked up now until August, so I just have to make it through this weekend.

Just relax, take it easy and rest that shoulder. You have the rest of your life ahead of you, one day off isn't going to make that much difference.

Stick a DVD in, make a cup of tea and some popcorn. We watched I Am Legend this morning, very good.

Dont worry Bernie. Not many people can do anything cos of the rain. I know we need the rain but there is so much other stuff to be done. Look forward to some quality time with your oh as he helps you and also just think how much will get done as two people do at least twice as much work unless they spend too much time chatting! LOL!!! Hope you feel better soon - nice hot bath?

Thanks! I've spent the afternoon lying on the sofa, under my quilt, making sure the neck and shoulder well supported, watching TV - well, um, er, I fell asleep actually! Only trouble is my shoulder is still hurting, even after a day's rest. More painkillers and another soak in a hot bath methinks!

Hope everyone has had a more productive day than me.

Poor you Bernie. Sounds to me like you need a nice massage.

Thanks Shirl - only trouble is, if anyone was to touch my shoulder methinks I'd hit the roof! I'm just waiting for the hot water then it's bathtime for me.

Hi DDL The best thing for your neck and shoulder is to get a wheat bag warmed and put it on the painful bit. The warmth will ease the pain but do keep moving it as it will become frozen if you dont use it and then you will be in trouble. If you've not got a wheat bag put a hot waterbottle on it. I had this problem a few months ago and I know it works. Good luck I hope you feel better soon.

Many thanks Catrina - I'll go and dig out my hot water bottle now. I have a wheat thingy somewhere but not sure where it is - either way, going for a look see. Bernie

                  Hope it eases soon.

I get a trapped nerve in my shoulder and it affects my upper arm. I know as soon as I have trapped it though and can go and pick up a bucket and open the joint and free the nerve again.

I'd suggest ice after heat, inflammation is usually the cause of pain and heat can make it worse. Ice reduces swelling.

My osteopath taught me to ice my back after stretching. The stretching gets the mobility back and the ice, as I said, reduces the inflammation.

Bag of frozen peas should do the trick. Don't ice for any more than 5 minutes or so though.

I didn't know that, thanks Wayne. I've found the wheat bag so after my bath will give it a go. Bernie

I would recommend arnica gel : very effective as anti inflammatory ! you'll need to get through the massage though but as I said : very effective!

Poor you DDL - hope the shoulder frees up soon.
The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

I wouldn't worry about the h*******k (sorry offensive word) it will still be there when the shoulder is better. What you need are light duties, just enough to keep the shoulder from freezing up but not enough to do any more damage. Suggest

                            Turning pages of magazine
Lifting up coffee cup (or wine glass, also picking up bottle to refill it)
                            Picking grapes
                            Changing tv channels
Picking up phone and speaking to friends
                            Light typing on keyboard
Supervising planting if only feeling slightly better tomorrow

I know that sort of thing is very painful, hope you'll feel better tomorrow
