  • Ban Beater Gadget

I've just bought one of those ban beater gadgets that they showed on Gardeners World a few weeks ago.

It was delivered to me today and I'm just about to try it out on my plants.

Has anyone else got one and if so what do you think of it?

Well, I've just finished watering & I've got to say it's very impressive.

What it is, is a device that sucks the water from the bath via a cylinder to enable you to water using a hosepipe.

It's to recycle grey water as we've got a hosepipe ban here in Kent.

You put the plunger bit in the bottom of the bath (after you get out!), hang the hose out of the bathroom window which attaches to one side of the cylinder. The cylinder has a lever on the top, you lift the lever once to start the sucking action & the water comes out of the hosepipe attached to the other side of the cylinder. It's brilliant.

It cost me £46 including P&P and is worth every penny. Until now I've been struggling up & down the garden with a watering can. However, as it's grey water, I don't think it's recommended for fruit & veg, although I don't see why you couldn't put it at the bottom of a water butt (providing you can reach the bottom to attach the plunger)

I bought it from the internet, the website is www.banbeater.com

                Hi Shortie

Yep, my bathroom is upstairs. I got around 30 metres of hosepipe which came with it.

This might be just what I'm after.... I was thinking how to get my bath water down the other day.

                  You're a star, thanks!

We use an old bilge pump from a boat connected to the hose, I also use it to transfer water between different water butts
