Hi madderbat, Tel BW not to worry about it being sterile. In the past I have grown pumpkins on the compost heap and had a great crop. Just don't plant directly into it but dig a little hole in it and fill with multi-purpose compost, plant into that and the heap will provide some gentle bottom heat (oh dear that will set HeyWayne off if he visits tonight). Once the plants are established the roots will 'explore' the heap and find all that they need to keep the plants healthy and happy.

i used all my pea sticks up the other day got 3 rows all with fancy pattern sticks as for settling i am lying back in big chair that will do for me

Thanks for the advice Snuffer, it may help, but we'll have to take the lid off the one at home - have one of those black daleks! It may work - worth a try.

I was wondering wher chat was. Nice to see you all tonight, but I'm not on long as I plan to watch Brokeback Mountain tonight.

Madderbat a lot better this week & I'm fine.
I've been doing work Placement at Calke Abbey for the last few weeks & I am enjoying it.
I have learnt how to erect a cattle fence among other things.

I keep trying to persuade BW to grow things on our compost heap, but he's reluctant cos it's not sterile!!!

If I'm up to it we can go to the farm and get some well rotted 'oss poo which would be great to put courgettes and tomatoes on, but I have to take each day as it comes so can't really promise!

So the 'oss poo is sterile?
