at the plot today when the rain started so retreated to the greenhouse when HAIL STONES came down.rain i can handle but hail give me a break was going to plant out today but its going to be -2 tonight time to harvest before i get things out at this rate

It was similar last year ... very hot very early, then wet, cold and miserable until September.
Cold, frost, hail in May is not at all unusual. The wind is also cold when it comes from the north like this. The wind is as harmful as cold for tender plants - it dries them out and chills them and they don't grow. This is why older gardeners keep saying "don't put out your tender stuff until the end of the month"

calm down, dear. It's still only spring. Summer isn't until mid-June. Mind you, last year went to r@t sh1t after a hot spring.
