  • Enjoying my 1st produce

    Hi

I'm really enjoying my 1st produce. The past month I've been eating my very own lettuce. It's so much nicer than shop bought, flavoursome and crisp . I've just started harvesting my peas, in the pods, and they are so sweet and crisp. What's everyone else harvesting at the mo?

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

We ate our first potatoes at the weekend. There was only a couple of meals worth (for 2 people) but they were wonderful. They were planted in a sack on the 5th February - unfortunately the next lot didn't go in until early March so we've another month before we'll be eating them again.

We're been enjoying 'cut and come again' salads and spinach for 6 weeks (they are special when you GYO!). The radishes were also lovely but, again, I've forgotten to sow some more so we've run out.

This weekend I've pick the first of the Tat Soi and broad beans - the season is upon us!
    Cheers

Peas? wooooo lucky you, mine are still hiding underground following a second sowing due to mouse-type-munching

I have baby broad beans coming up and a lottie neighbour offered me baby lettuce plants, I planted half for on-growing and ate the other half as baby leaves for supper - yummmm

Don't think I'm anywhere near harvesting yet. Looking forward to starting though...

In the past couple of weeks we've had cauli, cut and come again salad, mushrooms, spring onions. My broadies and cabbages are nearly ready.

we've been having lettuce, spinach, radishes and a variety of herbs for a couple of weeks now- having our first stir fry with our pak choi tonight! can't wait for my peas to be ready- i nearly succumbed and bought some at the market today but they were quite small & flat so i thought i'd hang- mine should be ready in a month- fingers crossed!

Only things I've harvested so far have been herbs - mint, parsley, tarragon and bay (but thats always there so doesnt really count I guess!). Broadies and peas are going well but tiny, plum toms have the first tiny flowers, everything else is coming along veeerrrrry slowly at the mo. I guess lettuce or potatoes will be first to be eaten .... well done to you having crops so soon!

                This week -
PSB steamed with dinner on Sunday night
Cauliflower with cheese sauce and a pork chop last night
Cabbage with bacon and parsley sauce (our own parsley too) tomorrow
Stir fry with our own onions and garlic (stored from last year) and fresh PSB, cabbage and cauliflower (and some shop bought courgette and mushrooms) on friday night
Lettuce every lunch in my salads

That's it so far, but broad beans, mangetout and peas should start being ready soon too as well. And spuds in about a month.
