  • kite flying???

Anyone been or intending to go kite flying this weekend??

I've been watching some superb kites today on a nearby field.Very graceful and clever movements!!!

A bit of an improvement on my garden canes and tissue kites of my youth!!!

I would have loved too perfect weather for it, if its dry tomorrow I will get my kite bag out, (about 20 kites ranging from silly helicopters to 11 meter power kites with everything in between) but I went to do the race for life run instead.

Unfortunately, Dexter, being the wonderful dog that he is, cannot stand anything flying in the air - whether its an advertising balloon thingy, conservatory air fan thing with blades, or kites! I'd love to have a go with a kite and take Dexy - no way I'm afraid!
              Do have fun!

I used to love flying a 'home made' kite when I was a nipper!

I used my Uncles sea fishing rod and line to tie it to and often had it that high in the sky it was just about out of sight. It used to lift me off my feet it was so powerful. Ahhh happy days!

Watched a film recently called The Kiterunner, set in afghanistan if I remember rightly where the idea there is to have a sharp bit of wire close to the kite and cut down other peoples kites to collect for yourself. Good film!

Two footed skid halfway across playing field shouting "Stewie"
he had to rugby tackle me to stop me getting dragged through hedge- no way was I letting my kite go!!!!
oooooh I love it! cats did not a first though, I think they thought it a giant bird of prey. Now they play with the lines....I get so worried that when it takes up they will get sliced.
Have to send Mr HF (Stewie) in to catch the cats first!

                      HF,

If you are flying 4-line power kite buy some kite killers. They attach to the rear brakes lines and around your wrists. The theory is when you let go of the handles the kite brakes and descends. Useful precaution with storng winds we have been having recently.

I use to fly my kites on the beach at St Annes, Lancs - fantastic!
