Wind damage

This morning brought the sound of destruction in the garden so nstead of lurking in Land of Leather looking for a new sofa, this morning was spent rescuing climbers, timber and furniture as the wind brought down our pergola including all of its brick piers.

Its a big blow as its an important feature in our garden and has several very well established climbing roses and jasmines growing up it which we have had to chop right back.

The rebuild starts today.

I'm suffering too - but I think I have to take the blame for some of it. I vaguely heard the word 'gales' on the weather forecast this morning and vaguely thought about moving all the seedlings and young plants out of the plastic growhouse thingys. And then, whilst I was being vague, the whole lot went for a burton

Have rescued all the beans and most of the sweetcorn. The tomatoes are fine but all the courgettes and butternut squash got mixed up - a couple are lost for good - so its going to be a bit of pot luck as to what is what. Not having a clue as to the variety of courgette s fine because they were all just going in a bed together anyway, but I'd planned on doing the three sisters thing with the butternut squash - does anybody know at what stage I'll be able to tell the plants apart?

Oh dear,how awfull,sorry about your garden,as if you have not got enough to do,the wind is quite nastie in our area,Melton and Reasby got problems to,according to radio leicester,the poor plants,you must be very upset,i would be,is a good job we not got the rain that was forcast for us,good luck with the rescue.

That's rotten PW One of my obelisks has blown over but the plants growing up it were quite small, so I think they'll be ok. Don't much care for the way the g/h is rattling though

oh god PW, hope you get it rebuilt and damn the winds - we are ok here and not too windy just plenty of the wet stuff, hope you plants survive.

It sure is windy here in Saundersfoot, my little tomato growhouse blew over - there's broken branches all alone the lane - there goes the plastic garden chairs!

Oh rotten luck Piglet! I'm sure the plants will grow back fine but you can do without the extra work can't you?

Gusts up to 40mph today - average 18mph apparently! Little less than yesterday. Got OH to strap blue tits nesting box to tree because it was that windy thought it was going to blow off the tree with the little ones inside! Mr and Mrs Bluetit havent noticed so at least its now safe - well, in as safe as swaying from side to side with the tree! Bernie

Flippin windy here; just had the bt line out for an hour; thats the phone computer and tv. So I have just been potting up and pricking out in the garage. Not nice out there - like the middle of winter.

Sorry to hear about your damage PW Thankfully cheaper damage here but got back from a weekend away and my placcy greenhouse had collapses completely Don't know what the death toll is yet (we brought everything inside and collapsed the frame). Bloody wind!
