It's for the home but it will be at the back of the garden where noone will see it.
It has to be easy to use as time I have not got a lot of... I have seen leads on the market but wanted to get some advice on what really does what it says on the tin!
Most councils offer great deals on composting bins, I have a dalek and think its great, but you must remember to aeriate it once a week and keep the brown/green ratio the same.
Have a look at your council website, they deliver as well, i think in my area the cost for a large dalek was approx £20, i also think the Council's one was better value than B&Q & homebase!
I just love composting now, to be honest i used to think it was time wasted, but now i have totally changed my mind now i am a gardener and an avid recycler.
I think they look great, i like the idea of the tumbler, but they take up a lot of space, lucky if you have a big enough garden, though for some reason I cant see how you could get good quality compost in 2 weeks!!! You would have to cut the grass a lot, eat loads of veg everyday for 3 meals a day and get lots of parcels for the boxes, oh and eat lots of eggs, drink tons of tea and read 10 papers a day!! ha ha ! Perhaps 2 months would be good!!
I like the turning motion though, thats far easier than getting the fork in the Dalek and turning over, let us know which one you choose and how you get on with it.
Sheffield CC delivered the same composter as B&Q - £45.00 - for about £4.99, a couple of years ago, with a free (and very useful) kitchen caddy. 'Tis true that most councils have similar supplies. We live in a terraced house, small garden, but it sits quietly in the corner and I chuck veg peelings at it, and other bits and bobs, and we have the most GORGEOUS compost. I'm sooo sad and call it "black gold" whilst clutching fistfuls of it ... but like I say, I'm a bit sad and so need to get out more...
if you are in Scotland you can get them for £6 - £8 from www.wasteawarescotland.org.uk
I am about to get my second one from there, they also provide them free to schools and nurserys, so I have a few in my 'care' They work really well
I have just given it a real pruning before it comes into leaf in the hope of getting some regeneration and the tree not having to work as hard getting water and nutrients higher up. If this doesn't work I'll replace it next year with something else.
