Tesco's goes up in my estimation

Only slightly, and only because it suits me.

Wandering round aforementioned supermarket on Saturday, doing the shopping and stocking up on ales. Had a browse of what was on offer, see if I fancied trying anything new...

Low and behold, they have an ale that's brewed locally (Potton Brewery) and is served in my local as a guest ale from time to time. The beer in question? Village Bike. T'is a lovely brew.

Well done Tesco - every little does indeed help.

It's pretty much the one thing I like about Tesco - they do make a point of getting local beers in (Hopdaemon Skrimshander and Shepherd Neame Whitstable Bay here), and going by what a brewery-working friend up north told me, the breweries get a very decent cut of the revenue.

Ours sells local brew as well; i am often having to retrace steps to find my OH stilll 'deciding' which ones to have.

He's not having any for a few weeks tho'; he's on a work 5 a side team on the 21st and needs to lose a few pounds. he he he.

All the supermarkets are bad for having no concept of local, don't use them, they might get the message then. Pretty much stopped a couple of years ago and was surprised how easy it is.

We've managed to get our weekly Tesco shop down to... well, local beer

Not only is the farm-shop produce generally more local (especially if you stick to seasonal stuff), it also tastes so much better!

(and the weekly fish-van from Whitstable is a godsend!)

Don't buy meat from supermarkets, and particularly not tesco.

We treat ourselves once a month (the last Saturday) to a +/- 60 mile round trip to Bakewell farmers' market (fresh eggs, fantastic mushroom stall, organic chicken, rare breed pork sausages, etc, etc), then to Chatsworth farm shop. The meat is from the estate, ie locally produced. Nothing it too much trouble for them. If it's not on display, they will be only too happy to provide what you want.

Then to Matlock, and Sainsburys for the 'essential supplies', ie gin, whisky, brandy, lager, etc, and petrol. Would have put a grinning emoticon here, but they seem to have disappeared.

our tesco 1 mile from me built on the land of my the house i grew up in as a child are selling strawberries grown in a village 7 miles up the road right near where i used to go strawberry picking before growing my own. big labels on the packets nottinghamshire strawberries and we now have local milk. ( which i can by cheaper from a nearby farm and mr farmer gets all the money.) our tescos is really bad though for choice and no meat is local, i prefer morrisons for choice but have to travel 12 miles instead of 1 so use tesco mostly due to fuel costs and trying to do my bit for enviroment, only go to morrisons every 6 weeks. sainsbury round here not bad too.

stopped buying meat from supermkts a while ago(unless REALLY desperate),a lot of people seem to be misguided that its far cheaper,but haven't really noticed much of a price difference between our local butcher & asda,as for quality~no comparison!also the butcher sells wild rabbit!unless theyve always sold out when i get ther something asda never seem to stock!!it's sad really that people think the only way to feed your family on a tight budget is at the expense of a cruelly farmed cheap chicken when you can buy a happy(previously!)bunny for a fraction of the price & easily feed a family of 4

i get most meat from the butcher too, not rabbit as i hate it, get my eggs from a friend with chickens and buy very little canned stuff too. tinned toms for a fry up as i hate fresh ones and beans but not much else good job really our tescos tinned section is half an aisle.
