Yeek, I was in the middle of brunch when I was reading this - what with the human praying mantis there (well, that's what came to mind - yeuch) and the bitten foot, suddenly I'm not so hungry...
Be interested to see what Doc makes of those orrible bites. Summat nasty took a bit out of my ankle on Sunday and it's still itching like crazy, but not swollen though, so I think I'll live

Horse flies are nasty, and you don't always feel them bite as they secrete an analgesic and anticoagulant. Only been bitten once, on top of the foot, when I looked down I saw it bleeding happily and the little b*gger crawling round, next daqy I couldn't walk and my foot had swelled up like a balloon!

Hope you get sorted out Mrs D and its nothing more than a couple of mossie bites that the dr can easily deal with ... come back and let us know ...

              Chiggers?

Do you have chiggers in the UK? We have them here in the south. They're so small you can't see'em and they bite under sock cuffs and waists bands.
Try some rubbing alcohol and hydrocortisone cream to help with the itching. Hope you feel better!

Dr saw me at 1010am, says its infected insect bites, but he wasn't sure what type of insect, and as I didnt feel or see it, then I'm still not sure! He has put me on high strength antibiotics and high strength antihistamines (the full course of which lasts 30 days!! AND NO ALCOFROL!!!!! I'm gonna be going insane by the end of the month!!)

One of the other plot holders told me about a new strain of mosquitto in the UK, Tiger Mozzies, larger and stronger with worse bites than standard mozzies, so its possible that this is what bit me!

Needless to sya I've been drenched in insect repellant all day todat at the plot (even if it was cold to spray on!)
                Blessings

I suffered from the bites of 'super mozzies' all last summer and so did one of the ladies on the next plot, the other lady and my OH weren't touched though. The bites themselves seemed to last for ages too and were just as you described, Mrs D. Glad the doc was able to help, but if it means a summer without the odd bottle of red up at the plot I think I'll stick with the piriton.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

vitamin b1 puts them off but you need to take it for a good few weeks before you see any difference.

                    hope your feeling better soon.

A friend of ours, a GP, reckons he eats a teaspoon of Marmite before going into the field (Natural History fiend) to keep off biting insects. Maybe THEY either love it or hate it too!

Hmm, thats not fair Mr D, next thing you'll be telling me no chocolate or cream cakes with antibiotics too!

Shirl, its only thr antihisatmines that are for 30 days a course, and it says AVOID alcohol, not NO alcohol, so as I wont be able to avoid it if you're brewing it specially, then I recon I'll be ok (plus its 3 weeks away yet!)

The pills seem to be working, itching a lot less, and bites have reduced in size and swelling, so thats all to the good!

Wayne, please dont encourage him, you dont have to live with him!!

Hmm, Marmite, erm, on second thoughts, no thanks!
