I grew up in a family where 'thrift' was definately the order of the day.
Modern-day excess seems to have crept up on us tho.
It can be hard to see how lifestyles change when the change apparently so gradual... Before you know it your little portable telly is a huge plasma screen and there are three mobile phones on charge in the kitchen where the trim phone used to be
So the other month I bought a Wattson.
DIY KYOTO
OMG how it has changed our lives !!
When I first plugged it in it glowed red and showed 5000+kw/h (this is without ovens or other power guzzelers on )
We've unplugged stuff, changed lightbulbs, decomissioned a fridge and a freezer. We've chopped the plug off the evil tumble dryer as it's way to easy to bang in the odd load
We're now down to a nominal 600w/h
Wattsons are not cheap, but they're a great idea. Someone should lease them for a month at a time to help get the message accross.
