Found out yesterday that non cultivation notices went out to 5 tennants last week, so it looks like they'll have to do something or loose their plots! Potentially this could eradicate our sites waiting list!

I have never been able to understand why there are so many people on allotment waiting lists. If the local authority believes there is a demand they have a statutory duty to provide plots to people living in there area. I understand that the numbers will fluctuate from time to time, and will depend on council land available, but it does seem that there is a growing demand in some areas and what better way to bring people of a community together?

wish our secretary would do the same!our plots are far from perfect but we do & always have done our best to keep weed seed to a minimum for the sake of neighbours, this year we've put a lot of time & effort into meticuously removing as much weed root as poss only to have neighbours on both plots that bassically seem to be having a competition who can have the prettiest meadow!&wher will all the seeds blow?!I hate being inpatient with people but it does annoy me that our hard work is gonna just get harder because of people who cant even find the time to at least strim down the weeds!the excuse?.."it's not easy with a young family"..no its not but need to make the decision whether you have the time\energy if not sorry why take on a plot?at least when the plots are vacant the council come & cut the grass of any neighbouring plots.
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

Our site has about 60 plots, and a waiting list. But quite a few members have up to 4 plots, and this is causing some chuntering . However, I think it's fair enough, a few years ago the site was going to rack & ruin and it's only down to these few people battling on that the site is still there & not social housing, so I don't think it would be right to try and make them give any up until they're ready to. Also, the 2nd plot we have just aquired was refused by 3 lots of people on the waiting list! So they can'[t be that desperate and have been told they'll go the bottom of the list now.
2 other members are looking likely to be given the boot within the next month or so, they've had their plots the sam elength of time as me, but one lot aren't growing anything at all?! And the other lot can't seem to be bothered to do much, not even cutting the weeds down. Hey ho. So I might have new neighbours soon?!

Cost, cost cost!!! That's all it is gemlady. I found out the other day that our local council's total budget for maintenance of four sites is £3000 pa - i.e. £750 per site. To put that in perspective, they have had to spend £500 on soil testing to see if they can use some currently unused land on our site, and they have got to spend £800 filling and capping a well that has been discovered on another site. Half the budget gone already!! The budget is less than one councillor will claim in expenses for the year. Hmmmmmmmmm!!!

18 Plots On My Site And Two Plots Are Very Overgrown. One Is Next To My Plot And Nobody Can See Me When I'm Working, It Has Just Been Given Up So I Presume Somebody Will Get It, Not Sure If There Is Much Of A Waiting List. I Was Second On A List Of Two And Only Waited A Couple Of Months. I Think The Council Wrote To All Plot Holders And Told Them To Dig Or Give Up. The Other Plot Has Been Paid For But Nothing Has Been Done With It.

Now that is what gets me.
The plot next to mine was taken 1 week before I took mine on.
I get to mine as often as I can and it is starting to look better than it did when I first got it.
But the one next door has hardly been worked on.
If you cannot find the time to work a plot why take one on in the first place
