  • anyone here torn ligaments?

    Other than me
Tore ligaments in my foot on May 2nd and really expected to be back to normal now, but finding it stiffens up so quickly if I walk too far, I am in pain when I try and run (am supposed to be training for the great Cumbrian Run in October) and it takes a bit of 'working in' in the morning before it moves properly.
How much longer should I expect it to be like this?

I did but it was eons ago, I was at school so I got back to naormal pretty quickly, all that foam down my leg was not good for my street cred! I had to walk 2 miles a day to the bus stop too.
I can remember it being very pain full but I think all the excersise helped

Didn't tear a ligament but slipped a disc in my lower back pulling out the creeping buttercups that have taken over at the allotment last week. I never thought I would hate a flower but I do now.

Sorry to hear your news, it sounds very painful! I've never suffered myself (never been that energetic!!) but have you tried the NHS helpline phone thingy? Or even, try ringing your local GP for advice - I'm sure they would be more than willing to help.
Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.

          Hiya Claire

Shall i give you the bad or the good news lol!!! Ok the good news is that as I have HMS my ligaments are really dodgy anyway and hopefully yours arent, but the bad news is that when i tore the ligaments in my ankle when i was 19 (a long long time ago), well i havent recovered, apart from having a severe operation 3 years ago on that exact ankle!

What i would suggest is that you dont strap it, as this was advised to me, but when you go to bed or sit, have the foot higher than your heart, prop it on a pillow at night, you would be best to ask for some physio as this will help with proper exercises.

Please, please be careful because after tearing mine, i then ruptured them some 3 weeks later and was then on crutches for 6 months.

I think Claire, you need to be patient as it takes a while to heal and also you are on your feet all the time so this really wont help, walk aided with a stick/crutch if poss and i really really hope you get better soon, as i know the agony which has so far lasted me 21 years!! But as i said, i am different and have HMS, so not a lot would help me anyway, as i have tried everything else!

          xx SS

I fell off a kerb and turned my foot right over last July. I broke the cuboid bone and tore all the ligaments in my ankle.

I was only in plaster for about three weeks, as the cuboid is supported by the rest of the foot, so plaster becomes unnecessary quite quickly.

I was signed off work for a total of two and a half months, and was still on crutches when I did go back.

I had weekly physio at the hospital until mid-January this year, and I would say my ankle is now 90-95% better, I certainly don't limp anymore. If I overdo things, wear high heels, or trip (I am a bit clumsey!), I do find my ankle swells up again, and in the mornings its quite stiff and tends to 'crack'. I'm sure you know what I mean.

I have found it was best not to pander to my ankle, and keep it moving. I still do some of my physio excersises too.

It will get better, but it takes far longer than you would expect. Hope you are back on form soon!
