  • What is the purpose of the pigeon?

I like to think most things in life have a purpose on the earth, "I know an old lady who swallowed a fly..." and all that, but I've been wracking my brain to work out what the purpose of the pigeon is.

For many years I kind of fealt sorry for the pigeon - nobody really likes them. I don't hate them per se - (not like I hate bladdy flies that hover round your face anyway), but can someone explain the point of a pigeon to me? As I see it they serve no other purpose but to annoy people - pooing on their cars/heads/anything that sits still long enough, they cause damage to crops, they fly up at cars because they're too stupid to move sooner, but don't seem to do anything good...

If one is to believe that we are reincarnated in the afterlife, I hate to think what pigeons did in a former life.

    Anyone?

They're not as bad as slugs though and people do race them?!?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

The animal equivalent of the victoria cross, the dickin medal, has been awarded to 60 animals 32 of which were pigeons. These animals have marvellous skills, which we have used a lot in the past.

A couple of very heroic pigeons and all the listed pigeons

        Of course! Cheers.

Knew they must be useful for something - arguably all things are.

I once saw a pigeon hit by a car and was stuggling in the road, I asked the chap with me to do the 'manly thing' - I meant for him to put the poor bird out of its misery.... the man in question said 'hang on, I'll get a baguette' .... bad man

I suppose there is a place in this world and a purpose for every living thing if we could be bothered to work it out.
Pigeons,I think, are for pies. And rabbits!

There must be a reason why they're called Sky Rats....
