First time on a bike in twenty years!

What with petrol prices going mad, and my waistline doing similar I decided to fix up one of my Son's bikes and use it for the allotment.

It took me one hour to get there but I stopped on the way at Halfords for a bike lock and at Homebase for a watering can rose.
When I told one of the guys at the allotments it had taken me an hour to get there, he looked at the bike and quipped "It will probably take you TWO hours to get home!"

It was chucking it down with rain on the way home and even though I stopped at Jollies for some pigs ears for the dog it only took me 50 mins

Quite chuffed that everything worked out ok as I expected to be walking like John Wayne by now.

We'll just have to see what tomorrow brings!

it may not happen tomorrow, but believe me on monday you will feel it! well done you though, i am getting my bike out as well and me and the kids will be cycling to school in the better weather, just gotta get some locks as well

I'm planning on biking to my lottie when my littlest starts school in september and shall consider not ending up face first in a patch of nettles a major achievement!

My friend bought a really great attatchment for her bike so that the dog can run alongside without getting tangled in the chain/pedals. He loves it, although I expect yours is a bit young for that yet?

well done there me lad,when on a bike you can see more,then stop without having to hunt a parking spot,the only draw back is the rain and the heat,but don't you feel good,well at least untill you ache like the devil.

Well done.
I haven't ridden my bike since I smashed my elbow; it was brand new only 3 weeks before the accident as well.
The OH is supposed to be checking it out for me but that was 3 weeks ago. Can't wait until he does; it is too far to walk as during daylight hours I need to be able to get home quickly but I don't like driving all the time [even if we do drive there in electric mode].

Thank your lucky stars you don't have my bike. You need oxygen when on it, it's like being on a penny farthing. Comes with having 36" inside leg I suppose. I make a pretty effective windbreak too, so headwinds are horrible. Tailwinds however....

Good on you for getting the bike though Snadger. I've often thought about using mine for work, but with my propensity to sweat like Tony Blair at an annual conference, and the lack of shower facilities at work, it's not such a good idea...

Well done Snadger! You've done what I want to do! I've had a couple of attempts at riding the bike I got off "freecycle" (no pun intended!) but am so wobbly and dangerous would reckon that walking to work would be better - and am seriously considering this!
My astra estate is currently doing 25mpg -
Did a mileage check last night - 1 mile to work and back - mmmm must seriously think about this - my car is a luxury at the present time. Only problem is, can I walk 2 miles a day in 3" high heels? LOL
PS would of course, wear flatties to walk to work and back - lets see what the weather is like tomorrow am
