If the government insisted that all new roads should have adjoining FLAT cycle tracks built next to them that would help increase the number of cyclists. It's a wonderful way of travelling, especially if there isn't rain or a headwind !!

Yes, Tam, they haven't really got their heads around the whole cycle path thing. We have a brand spanking new relief road, and it supposedly was going to have a cycle lane the whole way along it.

Well, it stops at critical moments, like roundabouts. Just stops! Can you imagine if you were driving along and your road ran out, and you had to get out and push?
And in one section it disappears completely! If you're cycling north you are told to dismount (and what, levitate instead?) but if you travel the same path south there is no such sign. Joined up thinking, not.

My friend bought a really great attatchment for her bike so that the dog can run alongside without getting tangled in the chain/pedals. He loves it, although I expect yours is a bit young for that yet?

My trip to the allotment consists of using cycle lanes and paths. My logic is that if there aint no cycle lanes they can't prosecute me for riding on the path!
Funnily enough I was passed three times by police cars whilst riding on the path and nothing was said. I also saw a crash at a roundabout that could have been me................I just cycled past on the path! There were about 10 coppers at the scene at the time.

Whilst taking the pup on another long walk (where she dicovered she COULD swim in a local pond!) there was a woman on a bike with two of those extendy leads stuck out of either side, one had a GS and the other a collie........... so they must work!

As TS mentions the cycle lanes just seem to stop abruptly so what the h*ll are you supposed to do then?

Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

Cycle lanes; I was going to do one of my photography projects on the ones in Nottingham.

There's one where the cycles lane is neatly at the side of the road. Great, until we get to parked cars. So, they cordon off the parked cars - and instead of allowing the bikes onto the pavement - the cycle lanes veers off into the MIDDLE of the road - around the parking space [whether there are cars parked there or not] and back around the other side. So, if you are just cycling away, you have to make a conscious decision to trust that the cars will actually follow the cycle lane and pull over - or to stop and get onto the pavement and carry on.

This happens a few times on the same stretch of road.

Every time I drive it - I get angry.

If you want a laugh at rubbish cycle lanes have a look at these - Cycle Facility of the Month there's a whole book of them you can buy too, very funny.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yup, me too! They'd try and be sled dogs and race each other OR decide to attack the wheels!

                    Good for you Snadge!!

I used to cycle 14 miles a day in my youth...then I had a family ...then I fractured my coccyx and then did a fracture dislocation of my poor coccyx!!
Sitting down on a chair, never mind a bike, has never been the same since

I have bought an ultra soft/padded/gelled/sprung seat for my daughter's bike and if I sit semi side-saddle then I can cycle a couple of miles, but suffer for a couple of days.

                    Well that's my excuse!
Have to admit that I do miss it though- esp in the summer.

A swift half pint enroute home surely wouldn't go amiss would it???

Just a thought- maybe we could have a GYO cycle day where we each go somewhere on our bikes?? ( even if it's to the local and back!!
..... we'd have to get our bikes in working order, and then we'd have no excuse!!!!
