I don't make it easy for anyone to nick my stuff. I don't grow stuff in regimented rows, clearly labelled and easy to strip.

I intersperse my crops with flowers, so from a distance it looks like I am ONLY growing flowers.
As to man-traps, I have strategically placed 'watering holes', ie rabbit holes. I know where they are, so I don't break my own ankle. I also leave a rake lying around, and other bits and bobs. Again, I know where they are, so they don't trip ME up.

It might also be an idea to have a fake beehive up, or even a sign that just says "beware, bees nesting. Liable to swarm if disturbed"

You don't need to refer to their race ... just say you know who it was.

It's always happened. Sadly it always will. It's just a shortage of 'hard news' to report that brings these things up. It's IS disgraceful, it ISN'T to do with food prices. But neither is it a new phenomenon, as the news bulletins are making out. It's scum-bags being scum-bags.

referring to their race was not intended to be derogotory, simply pointed out that the method we used worked for that specific reason!if i've offended either you or anyothers then sincere apologies.don't think the evil eye would have any effect on someone that isn't from the afore mentioned part of the world nor shares their beliefs.so as i said apologies but feel that it was relevant to mention the race,& be assured i am under no illusion that thieving scum are isolated to one race!

I wished this hadn't been on the news, after all how many criminals are out there completely oblivious to the benefits of stealing from an allotment. This kind of media intervention is like the bush telegraph, I'm sure half of them get their ideas from watching the news. If you are stealing from an allotment you are clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed.!!

for the effort involved infirstly getting onto site unnoticed, secondly working out what you gonna nick, then harvesting(ie one story of potatos being dug up!).for how much profit they gonna make compared to how much effort i can think of far better scams!!

Where has the respect gone from this country thats what I want to know.

OH is all in favour of mantraps around our plot but I'm worried about the repercussions if someone does get hurt - it'll be US who are classed as wrong?!

                          Ooohhhhh, seething mad here .......................

Dummy CCTV cameras? Sounds like the thieves will be too thick to realise there is no electricity there (or maybe there is for that matter). "This area protected by CCTV" signs may be enough ... like those Speed Camera signs all over the place with not a camera to be found ...

People are hard up and want veggies - dig up your garden, go to one of the low price/cut price shops and buy some seeds and GROW THE BLOODY THINGS YOURSELF, if nothing else you'll be so knackered after a day's work you wont have the energy to go out stealing OTHER PEOPLE'S FOOD!!!!!!! Not their property, covered (hopefully) by insurance but their FOOD.
