  • what can I do with 2 x 2 ?

My kind neighbour has just given me 6 lengths (9 ft) of two by two wood.

What can I best do with it? I don't want to waste it. I've never done any woodworking before, so it would need to be real simple. All I can think of is a bean frame (like in GYO last month), or the corners of raised beds (but then I need to locate some planks too)

any sensible suggestion (Wayne) gratefully rec'd.

Would make a fairly strong frame for all sort of stuff - moveable fruit cage for strawb, really sturdy cloche frame (for tall brassicas? to keep off cabbage whites?), raspberry supports, basic cold-frame (cover with polythene?).
    Lovely neighbour

cut 2 bits say 2feet long, join together to form a v shape, make several more, turn them so the v is at the top, conect together with a gap between, there you will have a frame for a clotch, weather it be a netting,or whatever of your choice,i am thinking along these lines for cold frames next year, just copy the shape of the tent clotch, using longer strips of wood, sketch it on paper and see what you can come up with,

Just the right size for chicken perches.

Build a shed round the wood and get yourself some chooks

with how bad pigeon damage seems to be this year think i'd go for a frame for brassicas!~Poundland had some decent sizes of garden netting to complete!

What about a walk-in fruit cage? Netting can be found on t'internet really cheaply, you've got some really nice long lengthswhich would give you plenty of head room and keep the birds off your fruit.

A robust bird table, a frame for a compost bin (some pallets also needed (do you have a wyevale near you, they always have loads of pallets kicking around), obviously raised beds with pallets, start of a cold frame, you could cut them up and make into planters. Or just hammer into the ground and make a framework for climbing fruit with some wire.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Make some sort of abstract art for your allotment.

A giant star of David would be quite easy to assemble..........it would add a bit of height, be a good talking point and you can bet your bottom dollar it would be quite unique!

PS btw I am NOT Jewish!

or is that a bit sick?

If you have a couple spare and can get them to me (even cut in half) I would be very grateful. Supports for raspberry wires and the loganberry next to the path.
