Energy prices.

I`m watching a program about energy prices on ITV.(why don`t all new build houses by law have solar panels). And what with Gordon "useless" Brown going on about food wasteage and the price of food, I`m thinking about how lucky I am to have a veg plot in the garden to help ease the purse strings.. Can`t wait untill spuds, beans and sweetcorn are ready.

Regardless of his many limitations, it's not unreasonable to expect people to waste less - the volumes that people waste is frightening and it would seem that people don't always equate limiting waste to saving money - scary but true.

True. I`ll admit to throwing about half a bag of veg in the compost bin each week. Someweeks my carrots can last in the fridge for only a week, sometimes two. Same with the other veggies.
But I have a friend who goes shopping at Asda every two weeks and she gets virtually the same stuff every time. Her shopping bill has been £80 to £90 each time this week it was £120.
How can it rise so much in just 2 weeks?

It seems to me that suppliers are jumping on the bandwagon just to make a few extra quid!

You can say that. A month ago 2 chickens were a fiver at Asda, then 2 for £6 now it`s 2 for £7.
I try to get my spuds straight from a farmer my mum knows as it`s £5 for a big bag, if you brought that many at the supermarket I dread to think how much they would cost.

Its like petrol prices.THE PRICE OF CRUDE OIL HAS IN FACT GONE DOWN BUT I DON'T SEE THAT REFLECTED IN THE PUMP PRICE.Sorry shouting again!

It now cost`s an extra £10 to fill my 206. But at least the tax is only £35 a year. But then again my OH has to pay £190 tax for a year on his 306 estate.

I'd be most interested to see how much food is wasted by the supermarkets themselves. Now that's a scary thought !

Hello all.

I don't really think that the grapevine is the place to be making political points. Politics and religion being two topics that are always best avoided. However, here goes.

Can any one remember when the tax payer owned; The gas industry, the electricity generators, the water industry, the rail network and train operating industry, and British Telecom among others. All making vast profits that would have gone into the exchequer and could have been used to reduce our tax burden.

Politicians of all colours are only interested in the 'short term'. Popular decisions made today turn round and bite us poor citizens tomorrow. As soon as you come across one that seems to be talking sense their next statement will be utter rubish.

Why don't the G8 lead by example, and ask the caterers to provide dinner for £10! Honestly, why does the PM think I need to be told not to waste food? Does anyone waste things deliberately?

I heard on the radio this morning (Radio 4, now I KNOW I've grown up!), that the G8 waas discussing food shortage - over an 18 course dinner. Erm...

I'd like to know why I could drive my 1967 triumph 1300 for free, belching out fumes merrily, yet my 1.4L fiesta is £140 tax.

Again on the radio, they were talking about British Columbia. Sounds nice. OK, it's in the U.S, but it's remote enough that I can live in my own little world and sod the rest of em!

Maybe not deliberately but certainly by carelessness / lack of planning.
