I'm lucky enough to have a fantasic Mum who taught me how to cook and I'm passing on my skills to my children. My OH also used to be a chef so isn't afraid to get stuck in in the kitchen (unless it's the washing up!). There is a shocking amount of folk out there who think they can't cook coz they've never been taught, so I think it's good! BTW Piskie you're sexist!! (tee hee hee!)

I have not seen the add. But, I use my computer in the kitchen a lot for new recipes. I think it'll be a revolution in cookery. Just think-households everywhere will be having something new and tasty for dinner instead of the same old food all the time. I even seen some really old recipes making a come back. I understand that this wasn't the point most people are trying to make. :-)

I'd agree with this was shocked when Stacey started at the academy and her first Home ec class was how to make orange squash!!! (and half the class didn't know you were supposed to add water

Don't see as there is much wrong with it from what people are saying, it's much better that somebody is learning how to do something at all rather than just relying on ping meals. Yes, a lasagna is easy to cook if you know how but nothing is easy if you've never done it before. Don't own any nintendo type things but do use my laptop of storing loads of recipes off the web (and some typed in by hand) so often have it on the side in the kitchen.

i guess i'm lucky, my gran started posting recipes from the newspaper and magazines, into a book, when she got married, and also writing some down that her mum used to make ...... then my mum did the same, and i got both of their 'cookery' books about 20 years ago, so i have some great traditional recipes ........ it's the new ones i struggle with lol ..... maybe i should start doing the same for my son, though he tends to prefer traditional food too....... and yes he can make a lasagne

I was never passed on any cooking skills - Mum, love her, is not blessed with a natural cooking ability. It seems to have gotten worse over the years too.

I've picked up most of what I do via Jamie Oliver (I was given his first book as a leaving present 8 or so years ago). I therefore am not great when it comes to measures.
