The type of mushroom has a lot to do with how its prepared, but a standard or chestnut mushroom get a swift flick removal of dirt, a thin slice of the tip of the stalk where its dry, then halved, quartered, sliced, finely chopped whatever the recipe calls for. My mum pulls the stalk out and peels, no wonder I could take or leave them as a kid they had no flavour!!
