  • Overpaid footballers.

Christian Ronaldo agrees with FIFA president that he is like a slave. I didn`t think slaves were paid £120,000 per week.

I'd like for anyone to justify why a footballer is paid an obsene amount like this and nurses get a pittance.
And people wonder whats wrong with society today.
    Grumpy old git arn't I
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

The only thing I can say in their defence is that their football career mostly ends at their mid 30's.Some go on to be managers or pundits but most end up in retirement or NORMAL jobs!
I don't count Ronaldo cos he is just a Money grabber with an attitude!!!!

Did you see on the news yesterday that some of the top people at the BBC had a pay bonus taking their pay for the year to over 500K? I know they broadcast to a lot of people, but I think that's stupid money! No wonder our TV licences are so much! I know that they have to be good at their jobs an all, but so does everyone.
They don't save lives like Drs and nurses!

If people were paid by what they were worth then I would be rich and a footballer would be poor!

Don't get me started. I'm very, very slow to annoy, but rich footballers whining...

The whole Baden Baden scene, fopping around with ridiculous WAGS, buying diamond handbags for their dogs whilst playing cr*p football REALLY made me puke.

              Over-indulged, over-paid, and over-groomed.

And definately don't get me starting on when, on top of all this, they start diving...

I have never bought the short career argument for footballers - I would happily have my career cut short and have to do something else in my mid-30s if I had been paid £120k per week until then... or even just for one year at that salary.

Here, here. My thoughts exactly. I was only saying so to OH the other day. It's one of the few thing mother in law and I agree on as well!

Yup, talk about wrong priorites - pay 'em what the Drs and nurses get and see how they like it. Better still pay the people who save the lives and care for folk what the footballers get.....

Just because their careers end at 30 doesnt mean they are on the scrapheap. Most of them go on to earn vast amounts of money anyway and with incomes like that they should be able to save a lot or invest it, most tend to drink it away. The rest of us struggle to make ends meet especially at the moment.
Their wives/girlfriends are usually nobodys until they hook up with a footballer and suddenly they are famous for doing what exactly?
My 13 year old niece asked what does she want to do career wise said I want to be a wag !!!! says it all about some young girls they see it as a way to be famous and rich.

I agree with you but am basing it on most footballers and not on the likes of Ronaldo,Rooney,Lampard and the likes as they are only 2% of all footballers.

the main reason that overpaid footballers are over paid is all down to Clubs signing players that will never play for them and making sure that they don't play for anyone else .
Also agents stiring for a move for there client for a % of course.
The clubs are no different to Asda Tesco and other supermarkets that buy ground to stiffle opposition it's true folks.

I think that the quote about being a slave is one of the most idiotic, ill-thought out and stupid things ever said.

I just don't see how you can compare a slave to a footballer (of pretty much any division). Ronaldo earns over 400 times more than I do a week and he is complaining???

I would be happy with an annual salary of a quarter of what he earns a week!!

If he doesn't like being a "modern day slave" maybe he should resign and go and work in a factory for minimum wage, or stacking shelves in a supermarket, or better still in one of the Primark sweat-shops - then he'll feel a bit more vindicated....

OK, I'm stopping now, as this whole thing has really got me annoyed!

seems I can reduce my rant as most of it's already been said;except!!!!
firstly where do the likes of footballers get off trying to persuade us to support different charities, yet go on to get paid by those same charities to turn up at some OTT luncheon etc;also fans bug me to a degree in their apparrent ignorance that the only reason footballers get paid so much is because Joe Bloggs & his family go without holidays days out etc to pay for their season tickets/home strip/away strip etc etc to in turn pay for their football idol to p*** it all away!aarrgh, the one subject that really gets me goat! The sad thing is I used to enjoy football but I can't bring myself to watch it anymore knowing the vulgar money they get paid for doing nothing more than what they enjoy!
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.xx

Although most footballers retire at 35, they retire with a VERY generous pension. They are routinely GIVEN stuff for nothing from a set of golf clubs, membership to golf clubs and cars. The get sent designer clothes for nothing and when out for meals, rarely expect to have to pay the bill themselves. How do I know this? My BIL is an ex-pro footballer who, when he was at his peak, was earning an obscene amount of money and even now he's retired, he still gets loads of stuff for free. I think its disgraceful that these players that moan about lack of privicy etc earn more in one year then most of us will earn in a lifetime. I'm sure I could put up with being followed by photographers etc if I were getting paid £120k a week for turning up for work for not even 10 hours of actual work!! Ronaldo wants to get a grip.
