LOL, I was delighted to see it, first chance i have had in ages to get into the garden. Harvested all my shallots as the tops had all fallen over a week or so ago and they were being munched by something. I decided lifting them was the safest thing to do. Not sure how best to dry them now though - all suggestions welcomed folks.Happy Gardening,

Great weather at last - hurrah!
Everything (including weeds, but not me) has shot up about a foot and a half - so a day spent weeding/strimming (aka OH playing with a new petrol brushcutter and attachments!) and admiring the wildlife on our plot (bumble bees and slow worms)

As long as you keep the wind and sun round them when they start rustling when you move them they are dry enough i usually keep mine in second hand mushroom trays you stack them on top of each other and the wind can still blow through i is okWhat lies behind us,And what lies before us,Are tiny matters compared to what lies Within us ...

Aranthos (elder son) is in Wicklow this week doing his Duke of Edinburgh Gold award so it would be nice if the weather held out for them.Happy Gardening,

Thanks for the advice jacob. This is my first year growing shallots and I am quite pleased with the results. The Red Sun have cropped better than the Topper so I know which I will grow next year. I have read about saving some of this years to grow next year, are there any special storage instructions or ideal bulbs to save?Happy Gardening,

i actually managed to get lots of broccoli seedlings planted in the front garden today ...... yup dug up another trench in the lawn..... hopefully if by some miracle it's sunny tomorrow, i may get the rest planted and the cauli seedlings too
i've also weeded the front garden flower bed, well i think i weeded it, i wasn't sure on some of the things there, ie they weren't grass, nettles, dandelions, thistles or buttercups, so i left them to see what they turn into ...... i planted a load of strange seeds, and have no idea what they look like when they come up lol, so best to leave them.
am now watching top gear before going to soak my aches and pains and sunburn in a nice hot bathLast edited by lynda66; 13-07-2008, 08:28 PM.
