Don't get me wrong blue I'm not critising you or your opinion, I think that these systems just offer an easy out without looking at ways in which what we could do easily may actually reduce our need in the first place.

Yes and no flummery, I think we could offset our carbon to allow us to be carbon neutral if only we could work out just how much of it we use!!
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

i'm sure i can't do much more than i'm doing now, i buy mostly local produce, and stuff with as little packaging as possible, recycle everything it's possible to recycle, and now am growing as much as possible, turn off everything at the plug when not in use, only use my dryer when i have to, never use the central heating unless theres ice on the windows, don't have a car, and either walk or use public transport (though occasionally borrow next doors car) ...... probably the worst thing is the air miles for cocoa beans ..... but i'm not giving up chocolate for anyone

Like paying an extra hundred quid when buying a Range Rover to "offset" the first 100,000 miles motoring ...

I think aiming for Carbon Neutral is something to be aware of, because it offers a benchmark to tell you how well your efforts are working, but I don't have that as a goal in, and of, itself.

I think we need to stop all the growth in everything.

Population growth. Planet will be full soon. Each additional person needs oil/energy and food - if everyone cuts their oil by 10% but the population increases by 10% we are shooting ourselves in the foot.

Need to cut growth in usage of everything. Natural resources in particular. Even the growth of the Economy.

A population growth of 1% seems small, eh? In the average 70 year lifespan that means the population of the planet will double.

If I have got my maths right a 7% annual increase (which is what I think I read that Oil consumption annual increase has been historically) means that in the next 10 years we will use as much oil as has EVER been used before.

Finding some new oil fields would be good ... but ... every 10 years we need to find a new oil field that is as big as all the oil we have EVER used. Doesn't seem very likely to me!

Time to give it all up ...

Carbon offset is a load of B*******.all they do is plant a load of trees and they usally end up dying!!!!
The greatness comes not when things go always good for you,but the greatness comes when you are really tested, when you take, some knocks, some disappointments;because only if youv'e been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.
