Check out Maplin - they usually have some good offers on external hard drives.

Last night I downloaded a program: Data Recovery Software to Undelete Files; Disk recovery; Recover Deleted Files
Set it running last night before I went to bed and it was still going when I left the house this morning (7:25). It looks like it's found loads of files (you select which file types you want it to find) and it would appear that it's found the iTunes and mp3 files, so fingers crossed!
Then, I'll buy the full version to recover the files (hopefully) and it's not that expensive either - well, compared to some prices I've been given.
Wish me luck.Last edited by HeyWayne; 17-07-2008, 07:59 AM.A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/

Nothing is ever truely lost, its just got a lid on the box.
I like to think of a harddrive as a load of open empty boxes, when you try and get rid of something you put a lid on the box and put another empty one on top of it. This way its still there you just have to know how to move the empty box first.Last edited by Mikey; 17-07-2008, 09:20 AM.I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Just purchased one of these
Amazon.co.uk: Western Digital Elements 500GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive: Western Digital: Electronics & Photo
and received an excellent email from iTunes telling me that they will allow me to re-download the music I've purchased from them with no additional cost, along with instructions of how to back up, and how to transfer music back onto the computer from my iPod (which was not previously possible) - really very helpful - good work iTunes.
Just hoping that the file recovery thing does it's thing and rescuse my photos etc.A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/

I can really sympathise on this one, as the same thing happened to me about 3 years ago, and I lost everything, including two years worth of photo's which we had always been 'just about' to back up. I was gutted, and now I have only about 3 pics (not an exageration, sadly) of when my daughter was a toddler. We now back up pics onto USB sticks. At the time the bloke in the comp shop said nothing was recoverable, but having read all the above it does make you wonder....
Good news that you seem to have cracked recovering files, lets hope it keeps on finding stuff.Life is brief and very fragile, do that which makes you happy.

oh bugger wayne, i know how you feel.
next time this ever happens, give me a call as my dad is a computer whizz and can do the same as pcworld for far less than the £250plus they charge.
my pc crashed and died and i couldnt even turn it on, my dad saved all my stuff for me onto his hardrive and then back onto my pc, he is self taught, but has done lots for my friends as well.
sorry couldnt help, not been on much as just so so so busy being the end of term etc.

How cool is Amazon?
Ordered my new external hard drive yesterday - standard delivery, and it arrived this morning!
Recovery program was still running this morning, so as soon as it's finished I'll install the hard drive and start backing up my files.
Hopefully.A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/

If your is as easy to set up as mine willowstar you'll be laffin'. Simple "plug'n'play" USB connection.
Files seem to have been recovered - just dumping them all on the new hard drive - we'll see what happens I guess...

Well, recovered some of the files - music files were a no go. So, for the past couple of weeks I've been re-loading all of my CD's back on to iTunes. 2000 songs so far and I'm only up to "H" (yes all my CD's are stored alfie betty cauli).
Moral of the story - back up your files.A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/
