There was a piece on him in the Mail recently telling of the unhappy and scary event of the stroke etc.
So far as is possible to tell - he continues to make steady progress.
I'd love to see him doing a special slot from time to time on GW again - without the time constraints of tv deadlines.
I really miss his gentle and knowlegeable style. In the meantime I hope Carol gets the top presenter role - with Alys being groomed for the future. Joe can be left to become more comfortable on his new allotment - then report back....in about 50 yrs - or is that too soon!?

He may have 'seemed' like a healthy man but he suffered with something quite nasty when he returned from his round the world in 80 gardens trip. I think he was laid up for about 6 months - and this was before the stroke.
He has also suffered for many years with terrible depression and gardening became his therapy and eventually his trade.Last edited by quark1; 17-07-2008, 01:54 PM.Comment

There are many who could, but he as had the past presenters, a softness to him, a feeling of 'at peace' no rush, no panic, just calm, and soft....please come back Monty!Comment
