Strange Habit - for rememberance of important event?

Hello...... to whoever.....

As I write tonight I wear the same t-shirt I did 22-and a bit years ago just prior to giving birth to my son.

These days, when he is older, I don't get to give him the nightime cuddle that I did in his younger years, at 1.20am in the morning like I used to as he's out and about - and quite right too, he's out now! -even though he never knew!

Anyone else out there have little mum/dad rituals they keep up at the anniversaries of the births of their various offspring?

He's my one and only - I love him to bits (I'm sure he knows) - even though we fight like cat and dog at times?! - I hope just he knows just how much these last 22 yrs have meant to me as a proud parent. He's had so many dangerous problems in his life I can't even begin to elaborate here. Hard work - without doubt - but how I love that son of mine.

Not a ritual but I have an oversized t-shirt that I wear in bed that I had in 1986 when my son was born. It even has the year printed on it.

I think I khow what you're saying Quark.
For kids their birthday is just a celebration - for their Mothers it is the remembrance of everything that happened on that day, and the importance of it all.
I always try to make my daughters birthday special, and give her a sense of the importance of the occasion.
That never meant a party for 50 kids jumping and screaming on trampolines but a special celebration with family and friends who loved her. And the new rights and responsibilities which went with the age.

(and I agree- birthdays are just as special for us moms...I get given a big cuddle as a thankyou from my OH when I wake up on my kids birthdays..how sweet is that!!)

feeling a bit emotional today (pms!) so your post made me well up. me and my lovely OH are hoping to start a family soon and I just can't wait!!! we are both a bit older so hoping everything goes well...we have so much love to give :-)

Glad I'm not being oversentimental then - just don't like to show my soft centre too often!

It is a day for both the celebrant and those who brought them into the world - not just the mums - dads too - didn't hurt a bit did it fellas?.

For those who are still awaiting this status of parenthood - it is both a blessing and, at times, a curse all rolled up into one (be warned)!.

But for those of us lucky enough to be mums and dads, there is no better responsibility in the world, no better reward other than to see our sons/daughters grow to be fine independant human beings and hope that we've been a little part of that maturing!

willowstar - I was also a bit older when I had by son - it began with a 3 - officially classified as an 'eldery' mum after 28 I believe - damn cheek. I'm sure you and mr.willowstar will make fab parents when the time comes - you'll let us know won't you?

I am 34, almost 35 and he is going to be 47 next month. scary to think we could both be grandparents by now!!! we put it off a couple of years while I finished my phd but now I just have to be in my new job a few months and we will get cracking!!! he's pretty excited about the cracking part ;-)

My OH was also looking forward to 'practising' - and bingo - first time around!

Much grumpy mutterings about the whole 'it take an average of 6 months to conceive' (or however long it is) line that they put out there!

I hope it all goes well for you both and despite all the stresses of parenthood Quark is right to savour the special moments

I was 33 when i had the twins and wow i was over the hill in their books!!! ha ha ha!

well my close friends have been 35, 36, 36, and 28 when they had their first babies so I am pretty normal in my eyes but my friend who had a baby a couple of months ago at 36 said she was treated like a geriatric having her first! its funny when I was a student nurse and did some midwifery I remember learning about the perils of 'late' pregnancies, which were classified as women 35+ and I couldn't imagine being that old and just getting started...oh well, funny how priorities change throughout life isn't it?

Willowstar my mum was 42 when she had me, I was 42 when my daughter was born ( My fith child ) and my sister was 44 when she finally had her daughter after being told she couldnt have any and had two misscariages before that so there is plenty of time for you.
