It is a gardening forum that has evolved into something more - a proper community, methinks.

I tend to go into a few fora, as others have said (I don't go into chooks as I don't want to tempt myself when I really don't have space, I only occasionally go into compost and pests as I rarely need to look but don't have much to offer either in those, but I look at Vegging out, new shoots, lottie advice and general chat all the time).

As one of the ones who could probably be accused of blethering on at times, hands up, I do. (And often not nearly as funny or informative as others - sorry things often sound better in my head).

But I also have gotten an awful lot of useful advice from here, I am growing things that I wouldn't if I didn't hear about them here, or doing things a lot better than last year because of advice, and actually getting crops which is great - when I really might have given up last summer. The "What I did today..." thread has really been helpful for me to realise I am getting places - and that we don't have to strive for perfection, just functionality.

I also try to give advice when I think it might be useful. That may not be very often, but I try.

Overall, I agree with the motion, Chair, that this IS still a gardening forum.

Seeing as I don't have anybody sat next to me in work, you lot have become that other person. I know very little about a lot of topics and an awful lot about nothing at all. So I guess most of the time I'm just here to fill the gaps, I'm a dab hand at pointing, see!!

Well some of the time I use it for pointing.

Yes, there's loads of chat and social stuff going on but, initially, we all joined because we were gardeners (or were wannabee gardeners) and we have that in common.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I think it's good that the forum is not restricted to only gardening all the time. Like others already said, it's like a gardening community. I loving seeing stuff for vine bbq's and get togethers, it's really cool. Maybe one cannot find all the answers to every vegetable problem, but the grapes are all so lovely, no one would ever bite anyone's head off for asking what may seem like a stupid question. I also love the preserving and cooking area. I this it was pictures of homemade jams and ketchups that really made me join.

The forum is like a garden fork, sometimes you dig the ground with it, sometimes you lean on it and chat.
