  • Painting Paving

We have just been given a hundred 2' square paving slabs to build our new patio, now the slabs are dirty and just boring grey in colour, we would have liked sandstone slabs but beggars cant be choosers .

Now to the question,,,,,,,,,,, Has anybody ever had any success with painting paving slabs ?, can we just use masionary paint or is there something specifically made for this sort of thing,, or is my idea totally impossible/impractical ?.

    Thanks for any advice

instead of painting them how about pressure washing them, its surprising how clean they come up...just a thought

I would have thought no matter how you primed them the paint would still wear off and not give a very nice look. I once viewed a house where the chap had painted over his flag tiles in the kitchen and as it worse off it looked awful.

Maybe someone else has some clues as to how it may be done sucessfully?

Do you have children?Maybe let them loose with some coloured chalks with the advantage it can wash away & become an everchanging piece of art!!

i painted my front door step in april with ronseal step paint, and it needs doing again, i would guess if you are going to use it once in a while it will be ok, but if you are going to be using it a lot, then paint probably isn't much good, unless you want to be painting it 2-3 times a year.

Would a stain work, I wonder? I know stains aren't designed for paving, but the porosity of the sandstone should draw it up. I'm talking regular woodstain, here. Maybe try some on the back of one of the slabs?
