A colleague contacted the police after a taxi driver hit his car (he was in it at the time) and drove straight off. The response from the police was if you got his registration number then contact your insurance company we don't get involved in these incidents.

I think I'd go a bit further personally and say that if she has a return visit to call the police as that's bordering on harrassment. And lay it thick that she's pregant, feel vulnerable etc...even if she doesn't. They may not find the time to respond otherwise

How odd. This happened to my daughter (but fortunately not the pregnant one) on Tuesday. Young lad in a (brand new) BMW 3 series backed into her (also brand new) little Citroen C1 when they were both on a road with parked cars at either side. They stopped and pulled in to allow a car that was coming up the hill to pass, the gap wasn't wide enough for it to get past the beemer so he threw it into reverse and shot backwards straight into my daughter. The weird part was that he admitted liability straight away (and everyone knows insurance companies tell you not to do that, even if it's true) then tried to tell her not to go through her insurance company. Fortunately she was too shaken at the time to agree to anything, then phoned her dad for advice when she got home. The lad tried to tell her that his excess was astronomical and that he couldn't afford to lose his no claims bonus and I think she actually felt a bit sorry for him. Anyway, my OH told her, in no uncertain terms, to let her insurance company deal with it, convinced her that the the BMW driver's no claims and excess were not her problem and, largely because she needed the courtesy car, she agreed. Another odd thing was that two witnesses refused to give their names, but both took my daughter's phone number and said they'd contact her later. If the pair had been together I could sort of understood it as they'd have been backing each other up, but they were apparently separate and hadn't spoken to each other. Having read seasprout's advice about telling the police of this situation though, I have to agree, at best it's a bit dodgy and at worst an even worse accident waiting to happen and when I see my daughter later I'll have a word with her about it.

If you have the car registration then report it all to the insurance company and they will sort it out, it is their money. Don't get involved with the 3rd party.

            Hi all
Spoke to sis last night from what she said the lads insurance have also contacted her by phone twice once to varify the details of the accident and then the followig day to say the had contacted the garage and that there was £1600 of damage and to try and to get her to change the replacement car she had got, Strange, well the explaination was that as they would be paying for this in the end they wanted her to change to one they approved of! She phoned her insurance and they said no don't change the car has been done through her insurance and they then claim the hire cost of this vechile back from the lads insurance. She also told them that from now on they wereto deal directly with her insurance people and not to contact her as she was heavily pregnant and didn't want this hassle, she checked this with her insurance in a previous conversation then there was his visit on thursday. Sis checked out this company on the web they do exist and are based in ireland with offices over here too. Her insurance told her that they had heard of them and had hear on the insurance grapevine of problems and also that an employee from them left to work for them but that the set up he was going to be working with, home visits with blank cheque books!!! insurance are going to phone her back on Tuesay once they've collected all the info and spoke to upper managers and they will put complaint in to omnibusman. Sis is going to write lengthy letter to the las insurance company complaining about the harrassment, misinformation about car being ready etc.

Hospital checks the there and then blood sugar test was fine have taken bloods to check will get results later now they are concerned baby is big so they may scan her again in two weeks!! if its got a lot bigger they will either induce early or C section she not due till 11 sept. Thankfully she is fairly organised with all the baby stuff.

Glad to hear both your sister and the baby are doing ok - hope it all gets sorted out for her without too much hassle. It sounds as though her insurance company are switched on and helpful - makes a nice change!

All the best for the rest of the pregnancy

You know its just occurred to me why they might be doing this - pay for repairs plus a bit extra - just to be nice - in return for a signature.....absolving them of further claim.

Could it be that they fear compensation for injuries - physical/mental which may not be apparent at the time of the bump/crash and may appear in the days/weeks following - which will be far more costly than a few garage repairs of even the replacement of the vehicle either as a cash award if uneconomic to repair or like for like. I'm afraid I have a VERY cynical hat on when I hear of this kind of practice.

Definitely very dodgy, good job indeed that you sister is switched on! Sending somebody round to tell lies is well out of order. It sounds like the lad is worried about more than losing his no claims, I wonder if he should have been driving in the first place?
I hope your sister doesn't get any more hassle from this guy.

Yes Quark your right from what sis read of the paperwork they wanted her to sign it was to say she wouldn't make a personal injury claim. the bit extra was £100. But as sis said why would she sign that and then discover something's wrong with her or the babs for the chance of an extra £100 in her pocket!!

They really must think we're all stupid, mustn't they? Having said that, I wonder how many people do sign it, either because they don't think it through, don't understand the consequences or are just too distraught at the time.

Yuck... They were probably worried that something might have happened because you're pregnant and wanted to get away with that as soon as possible. Terrible.

Tell your sister that quinn direct are obviously worried about a big claim and if her insurance company covers her for legal fees then let them deal with it. If they dont cover legal fees then tell her to get in touch with one of those no win no fee companies. As she is pregnant OH reckons Quinn are bricking it. Good luck with all of this and hope its sorted soon. We are still trying to sort ours, compo recieved for my injuries but not OH's trauma yet.
