Someone needs to make a BIG fuss on behalf of your MIL, this is just not on. Get on to the GP first and insist that something is done. If there is another hospital admission your MIL needs to refuse to take FIL home until she is promised in writing that she will get the support she needs.
So sorry that this is happening to your family at such a tough time. When we were nursing my Nan at home All the community nurses were first rate (and I'm a nurse so I'm picky). Lots of love to you all xxxImagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.

Sorry to here about your in-laws problems Tootle, it must be very upsetting for all of you. My Father-in-law died of cancer a few years ago & my mum-in-law was 82 at the time & was trying to care for him alone as he didn't want to go in a hospice. They didn't get any specialist Macmillan or Marie Curie nurses but got help through the G.P. & Social Services who sent round nurses to change dressings, administer drugs etc. & carers to help with bathing etc., they were also able to get an adjustable bed in the lounge on loan, commodes, disability aids on the bath, doors etc. & someone to sit with FIL whilst MIL went out for an hour or two. Help is there but you have to keep asking or you won't get it.Into every life a little rain must fall.

I'm so sorry to hear your news. We also had a bad experience. Dad was only diagnosed with cancer two weeks before he died, he received one visit from a MacMillan nurse whose sole object was to make him face up to his condition. At one stage she actually said that he would not be around to see his beloved grand daughters grow up. When Mom asked her to go Dad was crying."A home without a cat is only a house"
