We all have to start somewhere, my father has just bought a laptop and he's 78. Good for him I say, but it's a steep learning curve. I don't appreciate how much is taken for granted.

There is a full stop key on your keyboard by the way , you appear to be using the ~ key instead.

I like the"~"button!"~~ I don't tend to stop for breath between sentences so~~
I am doing my best but it's actually all still a bit like learning a new language~(sorry~.~),except I'm quite good at that!4 months ago I didn't even know how to log off!!A couple of days ago I managed to move some pictures from camera to computer to P.P.I actually wanted them on a thread but for some reason my profile album would accept them but not the thread
Oh how I wish I'd not been a rebellious school kid & listened when the teachers said I really should do computer skills~but hey like you say it's never to late to learn!

"think it may be a while before the blog gets started"

As the saying goes "Its harder to describe than to do".

Both Blogger and Wordpress are pretty much follow-your-nose (I know that techies like me say that all the time, and actually only Rocket Scientists should apply! but Blogging is incredibly popular, and I'm sure that is in large part because the likes of Blogger and Wordpress have made it very easy.

Have a go and surprise yourself! But come back if you get stuck of course.

Where are blogs hosted? Can you host a Wordpress one on your own website? Have you tried Expression Web 2 Kristen?

I have a blogspot.com blog to record my gardening adventures and some recipes. It's also a creative outlet and social activity.

SBP, if you have a linux based website, you certainly can host your own wordpress blog at yourwebsite.com/blog or some such extension. I really don't know what one can do with a windows based website. For the person without that type of website, one can have their free blogs hosted as a sort of subdomain of blog companies like yourblog.blogspot.com.

Most blogs are hosted on the provider's servers (wherever in the world they may be). If you are blogging on your own website then you may as well use html code such as Expression Web you quote.

care to share the URL of that blog marigold? I use the RSS feeds to keep up to date on gardening bloggers.

Thanks! Wow, that is one overgrown plot! Good luck clearing it but very nice to have the river so close, does it flood?

                        "Where are blogs hosted?"

Blogger and Wordpress will host for free (some limitations, but unless you are writing War and Peace or All-the-pictures-in-the-universe I doubt you'll hit a limitation! Wordpress doesn't allow any advertising revenue type plugins on their freebie-hosting site - which I suppose is fair enough!)

Wordpress you can also download (its Open Source, so free [as far as I know]) if you want to host it on your own server.

(I forget which-way-round it is but I think Wordpress .COM is the hosting site and .ORG is the software/download site)

"Have you tried Expression Web 2 Kristen?"

                        Nope ...

                        "... windows based website"

Wordpress needs MySQL and PHP - that can be done on pretty much anything I would think (including Windows servers)

                        Dunno about any others though.

(Just for reference: I'm pretty sure that BlogSpot and Blogger are now one-and-the-same)

I don't know if it floods. There seem to be a lot of houses on that river. This website says that there is a risk of flood once every hundred years and a few building restrictions on the River Wandle.

My plot neighbours who took over their plot shortly before me said they pulled half a caravan out of their allotment.

We are all hoping that it will fill up soon with plot holders..

In other news, brown trout are breeding for the first time in a century in the River Wandle! I cannot wait to go fishing.

                            Back to the blog topic!

Thanks Kristen, that makes more sense.

I blog because I use it like a diary. A lot is changing all of the time and it is good to keep it in perspective! Also, when we left UK we left many friends and family who are interested in what we are doing - it took me a while to get going though! I am a little shy about it still, so no-one knows it's there yet!! I decided to add it to my signature here first to get used to the idea of other people seeing it. Crazy, I know!
I use blogspot - it is very simple, you can muck about with the html if you can/like, also it is free and I liked the stock templates!!!!
