Thank you, You're right about the ish bit but if you're on a valley side, I'll bet you don't get as many moles as us

Do you think it is a courgette too, I have a friend who thinks it is like an overgrown round courgette. Perhaps I'll post the picture on here to see if anyone can identify it.

Looks exactly like that only quite a bit bigger. Thank you for the link. I'm just so annoyed it isn't a melon though.

'fraid not, water melon flesh is red I think and this is white.

Is it likely to change colour as it ripens? If its a melon it must have a while to go before its ripe?

If you want to see more gardening blogs than you can shake a stick at, from all over the world, have a look at Blotanical - you can register your website or just browse through people's blogs. It's free and a very friendly community (much like here!).

There's plenty of people with allotment blogs, but its also amazing to see people who can grow what we consider houseplants in their gardens. Mind you, the grass isn't always greener - when I commented on all of the gorgeous 'houseplants' one lady had in her garden, she said she wished she could grow roses!

(I have no links to the site other than I use it).

While I've seen yellow water melon flesh, the leaves on the plant in question do not seem to be as serrated (or lobed as this page calls them) as the leaves of the water melon plant.
