Well what can you say, only 2 words are needed. BRITISH GAS, says it all!.

How can they justify putting there prices up 35%, and making profits of how much...

a 35% increase must be illegal!

It is ridiculous, I'm just glad we switched and fixed our prices for 12 months cause who knows by the end of the year how high it will be.

Am having the chimneys cleaned in the autumn and cranking up the wood burners from now on.

Must go now as i can feel myself getting all worked up, and that will only lead to swearing lol.

its getting ridiculous, just heard that BG had profits of 1 billion last year, it was lower than the year before - poor things!!!!!!

we have just had the house insulated with cavity wall and we managed to get this free because my son is classed as disabled. I am hoping this will help with the heating bill this winter, its not helping at the mo though, due to the heat ha ha!

I am now gonna make an effort to use less heating this year, i hate heating on in my bedroom and never ever turn the rad on all year, when its too hot i never seem to breathe well and get a stuffed up feeling so i am gonna turn the thermostats down and put on an extra pully! and i am gonna try and not use the tumble dryer, one because i get nagged about using it and also i dont need the extortionate bill!

    moan over!! lol!!

    (barhumbug!!)

My OH will not change supplier get capped rate or anything else look out when he starts moaning in the winter cos bills are too high.
We dont have a tumble drier and the rads are turned off in the rooms we dont use and turned down in the rooms we do.

my OH is exactly the same, we only have the heating on in the rooms we use. but he will be getting the chimney cleaned this year and Im off to find any free wood i can without chopping down trees - ie using wood pallets. which my OH should be able to get free - bonus, although, we will be being told soon that we are bad for the environment and globe warning and all that stuff, is there anything we can do - oh yes grow your own veg, that will show them.

Oh its amazing what you get of your chest when you get going,

A significant factor in gas being so dear now is that we have just one-fifth of the storage capacity of France or Germany.

We continue to extract it from the N.Sea and are then 'obliged' to sell it into storage - having to buy it back later at vastly inflated prices. BGas imho should be forced to build new storage capacity. Even if it means reducing shareholder divvies to achieve this.

An alternative could be to stop or scale down production when it is not needed so much and use the N.Sea as the storage facility - or is that too simple and straightforward?

But of course this is unlikley to happen and instead we will have to pay higher prices. BGas and also EDF are just the unlucky first ones to annouce the hikes - others will follow in quick succession now.

I just hope we don't have a bad winter as I can see many elderlies not turning up the heat to keep warm and suffering the unfortunate consequences as a result. Just pray for a mild winter.

am praying hard, and i agree, that would be far to simple, but i love the way we the small people who have to pay the bills, come up with these brilliant ideas, is it me or should the people or are oviously being paid a fortune by BG be coming up with these ideas, and then putting them into action, or are they summing themselves in the south of france with there new 35%

              Oh now I've started!

I was lucky a few weeks ago to be bothered to talk to a rep of eon who was offering prices capped until Oct next year, and it worked out cheaper by £5 per month too. We are with edf at the moment, but the change over should be complete by 5th Aug, so hopefully, for once, we have done the right thing. OH was sceptical at the time, but as they explained the price was capped, but if they went down this would still be passed on I couldn't see any risk. Also they are giving us a 'free' electicity monitor, so we can see where we use most and try to economise.

Sky News has worked out that to have your open gas fire on for an hour costs 99.9p now with BG for an HOUR!!! I`m knitting lots of jumpers and cardi`s.
I also sit on the sofa under an old sleeping bag when it`s a bit nippy.
It`s amazing how warm you get.

thankfully we don't have gas, Last year I bought a solid fuel rayburn off E-bay for £100.00 (looks like new!) This does our cooking, heating and hot water. OH got a bit crabby when I bought it but now tells everyone what a great idea he had

Apparently, according to one report I read, the British Gas arm of Centrica made a loss, despite the parent company making a huge profit. A number of pension funds etc have their fund invested with them, which they have used as a reason to try to make British Gas more profitable by putting up the prices.

British Gas is a business, and the purpose of a business is to make maximum profit for shareholders. They don't give a darn for customers.

I have just switched to npower.
