I was bemoaning the fact that my weight seems to fluctuate between 2 points, however much I try I can't seem to shift below a certain level. A friend gave me a copy of a hypnosis tape for weight loss. I don't know that it will help, because everytime I've tried listening to it I fall asleep. It does emphasise you should be comfortable and relaxed, well I'm certainly that. The first couple of times I laid down, but as it sent me to sleep, I tried the armchair, still slept. I haven't heard the end of the tape properly yet, but I did fast forward to the end, where he counts to 10 and you are supposed to 'come out of it'. I seem to be too far gone to hear him by that stage. In fact last night, when I woke, as I often do, at 3am, I put the tape on, and woke again at 6.30, late for me.
Has anyone else used hypnosis for anything? Does it send you to sleep?

I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

    hi there barleysugar

yes i had hypnosis at 3 months preggas with the twins to stop smoking and it worked for 18 months, my fault, i had PND and went back to it!! anyway, i have a CD here from the same guy and i am like you, i fall asleep.

The best way to describe the state of mind you should be in, is closing your eyes and the feeling of floating within a black hole, but still totally consious (cant spell that oops)!!

When you put on the tape, lie down with the lights out on the couch when comfortable and concentrate on the words, when i am hypnotised i seem to repeat all the words in my head, concentrate on your breathing as well, you will get very very relaxed.

I hope it helps and if so, please pass to me ha ha ha! i could do with the help.

I am sure gonna do my CD again, as i know it works, but i have to be in the right frame of mind and want to quit, thats the first step!

also when i am under, i feel floaty, like i am floating from the sofa, wierd but a lovely feeling.

Hope this helps and good luck, let us know how you get on xx

I used self-hypnosis for pain-relief during labour. The reading material that came with my CDs said that you should be in a 'daydreamy' sort of state when listening to them, but if you fell asleep then it was ok because your subconscious would still take it all in. I used to fall asleep every time I listened to it, but it definitely worked for me. Hope it works for you.

Maybe that's the point. While you're sleeping, you're not eating, therefore you lose weight!

          I tried hypnosis.

I have a rather embarassing affliction where I cannot carry more than one drink without my hands shaking - it's an anxiety thing apparently. When I buy a round of drinks at the pub I have to go backwards and forwards with each drink, one at a time - even taking breakfast up to LadyWayne in bed I have to take the orange juice, then the tea, then the bowl/plate of food - keeps me fit if nothing else. Unless I buy bottles or drinks that aren't filled to the brim. Fear of spilling it I guess.

          Anyway!

The dude I tried told me that not everyone is susceptible to "going under" and whilst I fealt terribly relaxed (something like meditation) I certainly wasn't hypnotised. Relaxation techniques were very much that though - relaxing.

            Hi BarleySugar

Yeah, I've got Paul McKenna's weight loss tape and it has exactly the same effect on me, keep waking up when it's finished and there's just snow on the screen. It's brilliant if you have insomnia I did go to a hypnotist years ago, but it didn't work either. I must try the tape again as really, really need to lose weight. Good Luck.

I tried hypnotherapy a few years ago and found exactly the same thing Barleysugar. The sessions were taped and I had to listen to them between visits. Never got past the first few minutes. The therapist said that was fine, it should still be going into my sub-conscious. I think the hypnotherapy did it's job AND it gave me a way to beat my insomnia. I don't still listen to the session tapes, but talking books do the same job, if I wake in the night (4am was my usual) book goes back on and I'm off in minutes. Brilliant.
