    our allotment is having an open day on the 16th august and i thought i would do a short quiz for the kids based on fruit, veg with possible a bit of good for the environment stuff. given recent reports i was going to put in some questions like "what are chips made from", have any of you any ideas for questions, oh and you probably need to give me the answer as well just in case!

    In the light of your above question, you might ask if they know how many portions of fruit and veg they should eat per day? (5)
    Can they name any fruit that shares its name with a colour? (You could give a point for each one they get.) Orange, lemon, tangerine, lime etc. I'm sure you could add more but it will save having a tie-breaker!
    I'll have a bit of a think.

      Have a display of fruit & veg & see how many they can name~inc some obvious ones like carrot/potato but also add some slightly more uncommon ones & see how many they can name.

          How about which vegetable can fly?

          Carrot-fly

          Name three green (cabbage, broccoli, peas etc) white (potato, turnip, salsify etc), orange (pumpkin, carrot, swede etc), purple (kohlrabi, beetroot, beans etc) vegetables obviously make up as you wish.

          How about a load of pictures of veg, and naming which ones grow above or below ground.

          Blind taste session with various cooked veg, to name the veg? (its one way of getting them to eat their greens.)

          Speed game of building scarecrows, guess the weight of a pumpkin, name the tool (spade, fork, rake, hoe, azada, rotovator, shears, asparagus knife etc.

          You could also have a who can name the most vegetable songs see attached list for assistance. here

                    Let me think did the opening post ask for questions for adults or kids?

                      Not strictly within your questions but could you add in some herbology questions from Harry Potter for a bit of a laugh (plus they're more likely than their parents to get them right?);

                      Snargaluff pods, Devil's Snare, Mandrake etc...

                      Or you could put some unusual fruit/veg in bags and ask them to feel them and say what they are without looking (I'm thinking Dragon Fruit, Lychee, Star Fruit, Celeriac, Ugly Fruit, Coconut)

                            not a quiz i know but why not have a table with - 'how many peas etc in the jar' or create a 'mini garden' in a seed tray or 'plant a seed' (a simple pot, compost and seed etc), create a mini 'Mr Macgregors' garden and get the kids to name the veg maybe, they score 1 peter rabbit carrot sticker or whatever for each 1 right. make a herb pot to take home, a mexican plant pot (a pot with various stickers etc to decorate and a cactus to go in) or even get the children to make bird feeders or insect homes, seed packets they can decorate and collect seeds to store.

                            Just a thought, have a good time, have lots of links to website etc if you ned free templates, pm and let me know.
