Buddy list

Can any body explain how this system works because i no understand because i have not got a clue .
I am only a simple gardener trying to understand computors unlike a lot of grapes who are whiz kids on computors and still learning to be gardeners ( iam not infering that i am a whiz kid at gardening )but trying to catch up with the 21st century any help would be appreciated thanks in anticipation jacob marley

all a buddy list is, is a list of buddies ....... it's not complicated, you don't need to do anything with them(unless anyone wants me as a buddy in which case choccie is always welcome) ...... it's just to show you aren't billy no mates when anyone looks at your profile

I don't see what the point of a buddy list is on a forum.

I thought the whole point was to chat "in public" so that folk can exchange ideas and opinions, and others can find them via Google.

I get Tee-d off when someone sends me a PM asking me a gardening question - not of any benefit to the community, and thus asking only a Buddy something seems equally daft to me.

As a means of collecting a Contact List for people you might PM its fine, although I've never had the need for a Contact List in order to enable me to PM someone, but other people's mileage my vary of course.

I think it has more to do with the craze for Networking Sites, like Facebook, and the forum developers reacting to a perceived need to make forums into networking sites. I think forums are actually better at creating networks than Facebook style sites, but I'm a boring old fart, so what do I know anyway?!!

I am a useless techie I don't even know how to set up the dvd to record However I did work out how to use the private message thing when Sarzwix sent her postcode so I could look up her height for the pressure canner. But I think the PM is only useful in those situations

Ha ha, sorry Alison, I needed her postcode to match up with my Anquet mapping so that I could tell her what her height above sea level is so that she doesn't blow up her pressure canner. All very confusing but it was on another thread. Obviously Sarah wouldn't want to 'post' her post code so she sent it via the message system, and then it took me over half an hour to work out how to send her one back
