  • 10 second rule

'This forum requires that you wait 10 seconds between searches. Please try again in 9 seconds.'
Is this happening to anyone else? I log in, go to quick links, click on todays posts and the 10 second message comes up. Grrrrr. Didn't used to happen and it's very annoying. Every time I want to change pages, the message comes up again. How do I stop it from happening?

You can't stop it. It's there to stop spambots which can flood the board with multiple automatically generated posts and clog it up. 10 secs is good, other boards have much longer waits.

We have a 8 second rule. If something edible falls to the floor and is there for less than eight seconds then its ok to pick it up, blow on it (therefore making it clean again) and eat it. Doesn't work with icecream tho'.

make sure you are not double-clicking on Today's Posts (I expect you aren't, but just thought I'd check)

Definately not double clicking but it still happens. Do I take it other peeps arn't having this problem? I don't mind so much if it is to combat spamming but it's still a #*&"^ pain

Oh dear! It comes up if I do a search here. Just click on the link in the message above (rather than search). I'll copy it again here in case that helps:

I have had the 10 second problem, but only when I have got impatient and clicked a second time. Sounds like there is something amiss with the settings, or some installed software, on your computer.

I wonder if there is a setting for your mouse, somewhere, that says something like "Single click [i.e. instead of double-click] to launch programs" ??

This is called the 3 second rule here, blowing on something removes the hairs, but covers it in germs. Nice

It doesn't work with butter, or drinks either, not unless you're prepared to lick the floor!
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

if you're giving it to my dad it doesn't matter ...... you can pick the hairs off the butter .... though the drinks, soak it up with kitchen roll, then wring it out into the glass
