We had our housewarming party y'day, and the forecast for days beforehand had been dire: rain followed by showers.
So, we planned the food & layout around being forced indoors. We also rigged up 2 tents and a gazebo in the garden.
And it was dry & sunny all day
perfect. Our first (and prob last) BBQ for 2 years.
What a lot of work though - I spent 2 days prepping the food. All the veg was from the allotment (potatoes in many guises: fried, salad, roast); grilled courgettes (yay, that's how to get rid of the marrows!); grilled onions, etc. We could have just got Iceland Party Packs, but where's the challenge in that We spent £200 - but with 50+ guests, it doesn't sound so bad: £4 a head.
Used a great book for sauces & dips: Barbecue by E.Treuille (Dorling Kindersley, lots of pics). The peanut satay sauce & Stilton Butter went down a storm.
This morning the damage is not too bad.. one broken tent (£5) and 3 broken glasses (they were old ones). No plants damaged, pets neither. And in the fridge - wow! 3 bottles of Veuve Cliquot, about a hundred Grolsch/Stella/Becks bottles too . And cold satay sauce for brekky
Special thanks to mother, mother-in-law and sister for providing washing-up help, emotional support and the SingStar Karaoke Machine
