Be warned SW! We got our new puppy at Christmas and she thinks the veg garden and polytunnel are her own diner and the new greenhouse great to charge around in ever decreasing cicles. Love her to bits but ............ sometimes ................ Thought she was beginning to learn the word NO, but she hasnt got the hang of that YET Never known a dog to like lettuce, carrots and onions.

Tried tying her up for a while and so far she has eaten through three bits of rope and a lead!

I would post a picture of our Aimee but she moves so fast all you get in the photos is a black smudge!

We looked after a puppy for a while and to stop him eating from our plates we'd purposesly leave things on there smothered in strong mustard to put him off.

Well, he liked the darned stuff.

His name is Max... (but mostly we call him "Oi, NO!")

He is six months old and an absolute darling/terror at the same time!

His only interest so far in the greenhouse is going to sleep under the tomatoes in the sun... Luckily, we've decided to have the veg beds in our field, which he isn't allowed in. I've heard too many horror stories about dogs eating veg etc!

When we've tied Max up, he manages to get himself so stuck in the hedge that he chokes himself....honestly

Hi OWG, love the pics., he just wants to help with the digging! Is Max a boxer or boxer cross, can't quite see but he looks a bit like our late boxer Tess, she was brindle & white & full of mischief. We had to put childproof locks on the fridge & all the cupboards or you would walk in the kitchen after leaving her for half an hour & find everything all over the floor.She loved to take cabbages out of the veg. rack & play football with them as well so watch your harvest! She did settle down a bit later in life though, when she was about 8!

He is a boxer, but is undocked (purposely) and so often gets mistaken for a Staffy (too tall) or a Bull Mastiff (too skinny)...

He adores barrelling around in the garden!

We used to have a dog who loved eating apples - unfortunately he also had a penchant for verbena and pansied (verbena were definitely the favourite though). He used to eat them down to the little stalks every summer. It was worse than having slugs!

I used to remove the verbena, just before the plant died and put it in a part of the garden he couldn't reach while it recovered! In the meantime, desperate to eat one of my beloved plants, he'd go for the only thing left in his reach - Dahlias! Only problem was.... they didn't agree with his stomach so not only would we end up with chewed dahlias, we'd also end up with little piles of dog vomit all down the garden afterwards!

He was a very intelligent dog (most of the time ) but he never seemed to get the fact that the dahlias weren't good for him!

Hehe! Max is really cute! Sounds like somebody has their hands full. My uncle has a boxer too.They are very affectionate, but boy do they slobber!
My dog Bramble may be 10 years old, but he still enjoys charging around the garden. I don't mind, but he has an annoying habit of digging the whole thing up! Even now if I go digging up there, I still find some of his stuff that he has buried and forgotten. Chew toys, tennis balls, even his lead! We were looking for it everywhere, and poor Bramble just didn't understand that no lead=no walks!
Bramble is very keen on veg too. Carrots and potatoes are his favourites.

Lovely pictures and i hope Max gives you years of fun and love. The posts about dogs eating vegetables reminded me of my own dog (sadly no longer here) who used to love to go blackberry picking, delicately nibbling at the blackberries on the bushes while wrinkling her nose to avoid the thorns! Oddly, if i tried to help out by picking some for her she would ignore any i offered.

Ive got three jack russels and a border collie luckily my house is in the corner of the allotments and my allotment is joined onto my house gatden then the whole lot fenced with 4 foot chicken wire so every morning I let them out and spend an hour harvesting and weeding the smallest russel loves sweetcorn carrots potatoes beans and beetroot so she follows me and steals from my bucket!!
