You can get 2-3 bags in the bag at the base (we tried) and to be honest the buggy is pretty easy to move/use with one hand.

Nice one. I like. If it suits you then thats all that counts you have to be comfortable with using it and as you have put in lots of research it must be right.

        we've got one.

£8,000 second hand. The Turbo blew up last week (£750) and the front tyres need replacing tomorrow (£200). It was in for something else last month (£300?). And the month before that.

It's doing 45 mpg (from 41) at the mo, now that Mr Sheds doesn't race it to the next junction all the time

This is pretty much spot on what I want: Auto Trader UK - SAAB 9-3 1.9TiD Vector [150] 4dr Diesel Sport Saloon

It'll give me the practicality I need without too much of a compromise on how it drives.

I did look! Nothing in our price range and if you plug "estate" into Autotrader you end up with page after page of minibuses!

Estate does appeal to me, but LW won't drive one "too big" for her apparently...

Heck dude, you need a second mortgage for all the paraphernalia you are gonna need. Get the family involved, and borrow. Half the stuff will only be used for weeks or months max, stuff like nappy wrappers, baby bath, baby bouncer, crib.

Oh, there's no fear of that. The pram thingy is being bought for us, my Mum's on the prowl for bits at the charity shop - we get first dibs on anything that comes in she thinks might be of use. Grannie's knitting a shawl (made of bamboo wool that MIL bought). My brother is knitting stuff - blankets mainly.

Being the first grandchild on both sides of the family we're not short of help.

Just came back to this and thought 'that's a damn expensive buggy'.

                        Should pay more attention.

Even if I could I would never admit to being able to do this.

Scary, I remember what it was like, though being tall parents to a tall child meant we were the one doing the hand me downs. School uniforms and shoes are madness and little madam now aged 11 and 5'4" we are still having to buy new - painful.
