  • Physio

I have just been for physio on my frozen shoulder that I had manipulated at the end of June. Before I had it manipulated under ga everyone went on about how I must do the given exercises and attend physio. Why is it then that today was only my second appointment and this time he really hurt so much so I thought I was going to be sick or pass out, and I dont have to go for another month my last one was a month ago. I then persuaded him to give me an appointment to use the gym at the hospital I had to make it for the 4th of september as no other slots available and I can go at anytime as my time is my own, and he will make a further appointment when I have done that.
Someone at work had the same op on the same day and goes to the same hospital every week, physiotherapist tells me that mine was very bad. Is it me or am I missing something here.
I see the consultant on wednesday and I will certainly be bringing this to her attention.

    OOH - physio

When I smashed my elbow I had to go to physio. She used to try and straighten it [when it still had pins in - they would stick out the end of my elbow], and massage the muscles that hadn't been used much since the accident. The pain was - wow - and I used to see white light [the only way to describe it]. I was taught to get 'into the zone' a few years back and if I didn't do that I wouldn't have got through it.

Perhaps it was so bad that physio every week would not be good? You definitely need to chase that up.

I now [3 years after accident] see a sports massage lady every fortnight for 30 mins; just to keep up the massage on the areas that I can't get to. I found her myself and pay myself but it all adds up. 2 weeks after my pins were out of my arm they stopped my physio and I was out the door. nice.

I had surgery on my neck in 96 (cancer) and have been left with paralysis in my left shoulder blade area, and permanent nerve damage & permanent pain.

I was offered physio at the beginning, for 4 weeks, but then nothing ongoing. The pain hasn't gone away, so why has my treatment?
I chase up some more physio off my own bat every couple of years, but it's like getting blood out of a stone.
You'll have to pay for your own private treatments I reckon.

BTW, I found shiatsu massage to be the most effective treatment for freeing up my shoulder a bit: the masseuse was attached to my GP surgery, and sessions were £16 (half price)

my (NHS) physio told me - when she booted me out after 6 sessions that that is all their are allowed to give (on NHS) without referring you back to a consultant and thereby starting the whole process again ....madness!

I have to pay for my own treatment now cos I have no wish to go back to the Docs to be referred to a consultant to be referred to an MRI scanner to be told I have a stuffed disc (I know it already) and be referred to a (very long waiting list) physio.....are you dizzy yet? I am!

Ditto Andrea - I now see a Sports Massage Therapist, she is first rate but it costs me £40 each time I go

EEK: mine is £14 for 30 mins. But the chiro is also £25 per session so i suppose all in all it adds to about the same amount.

I have used a sport therapist before, he worked with me while he was training and I went to the college as a model !!! it was my knee that I was having problems with at the time. He also came to the house and did some back massage for me, there was me topless lying on his table and all the family kept making excuses to go to the kitchen.
I still see his girlfriend so I could ask her for his number.

Great explanaition - I'd of said "white hot", but yep that does it for me too.

Hope you get it sorted soon jackie, I know I ended up trying several different routes before getting my back operated on privately (health insurance).

              Good luck.

I see a chiropracter which sets me back £25 a pop, it hurts the pocket, but the healthcare cashplan helps, it funds about £280 of the chiropracter fees every year.

Interested have a look here its money for nothing really, and covers all sort of things.

funny how we pay to be hurt isn't it - there is a name for that but not on this forum, Ben will slap me

My SM* lady goes through a program that she calls 'your triggers' and I can tell you when she hits them it is all I can do to stop myself from shoving Snowdrop's gun up her nostrils and pulling the trigger

It then goes on to hurt me for a couple days, but relief does follow

I went to see the consultant on Wednesday, got there early and I waited and waited about 3/4 of an hour later the receptionist asked me my name and said sorry for the delay you are next, I waited very paitently 1/2 an hour went by sorry said the receptinist you are seeing a new guy who is in training and he is taking a long time.
Then another doctor who had a gap cos his patient hadnt turned up called me in, and he was not happy, the fact that I had been kept waiting and that I hadnt had enough physio and he would arrange for me to have more, I should have had it every week like I thought as they couldnt get full movement in my shoulder when I had the op, a fact I hadnt been told until now. I was with him less than five minuets.
