New Allotmenteer.

We took our three year old Grandson to the lottie for the first time today. He's had quick visits in the past, but today was the first time we'd taken him with us when we intended to do any real work. He's picked french beans for his Great Nan, watched in amazement as potatoes were dug then he carefully put them in the trug for us. He's sampled raspberries and fresh peas and cried when it was time to leave. He's talked about nothing but pumpkins since he got home. YES!!!!!! we've got him, guys.

My DD is the same, she loves it, especially when the strawberries are in season, its always the first thing she checks when on the plot even now.

The best bit was after I'd taken him to meet the lady on a nearby plot, when we returned to ours he recognised it and said; 'This my lotmunt'.

When my nephew learned to speak, he had a cod-Italian accent. So it was Alloto-menta, and Bean-a, and Spade-a.
He likes nothing better than digging up worms (well, apart from digging up Nanny's flowers)
His little brother prefers to eat soil, or drink from the bird-bath

I've just heard that another new allotmenteer is about to make his (3 weeks early) appearance too. I'm so exited But we're hoping he'll wait until after midnight. If he's born today he'll be considered pre-term, but if he waits until tomorrow he'll be full term. It makes a lot of difference to his neo-natal care apparently. His brother was 9 weeks early, but weighed 5lb 12oz so even at 3 weeks early he's probably not going to be a lightweight. Either way we're not going to enter the misery of incubator-land so I should be able to give him a cuddle straight away. Last time I spent almost a month staring into an incubator at a child I couldn't even touch, it was awful. But obviously worth it as he's grown into such a lovely little chap - and the apple of his Nanny's eye of course.

Thanks T-lady. Fortunately (for me) it's no 2 daughter who'll be doing all the labouring. I'll be looking after grandson no 1, getting stressed and answering the phone as other family members ring to ask if I've heard anything (that's already started, so I know it can only get worse)
