This is an article from 2004 Johnny, and says its a survey of 321 people who complained about shoddy solicitors. Its hardly reflective of society as a whole

Statistics, damn statistics, and lies, isn't that how politics is run?

Hi Mikey - I only said it made me think a bit deeper - that's a lot of people with similar complaints nonetheless.

I know there are some very good solicitors - as I said earlier, it's just a small percentage that give the rest a bad name :-)

Not all football fans are hooligans after all - but only the bad ones make the news.

I've never seen a headline praising a solicitor for good service - only negative issues make the press.

I think there is a statistic banded around in sales, it goes something like this. Every happy customer will tell 1 other how good you are, but 1 unhappy customer will tell 10 others how bad you are. This I think is a very good reflection of our society, look at the weather as an example, we complain about it all the time, how often do we actually say how great it is?

Not so much a good reflection of our society being a society of moanerd more that the odd moaner moans louder than the rest praise!(or something like that!?)
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

By coincidence the conduct of solicitors was discussed in Westminster on the 22 July 2008. It was recorded that the Solicitors Regulation Authority had struck off or suspended 45 solicitors between 2006/7 which was up from 32 the previous year.

I didn't realise these figures were so high. If this upward trend continues, we could reach the stage where one solicitor a week is being struck off or suspended by the SRA.

To me, that is a statistic for concern within any professional body.

Please don't think I'm tarring all solicitors with the same brush, that would be clearly unfair - but the bad ones need to be brought under control and properly regulated to prevent the misery they cause to others.

Well, my solicitor just secured me a significant increase on the offer by my ex for a house bought 15 years ago; the cheque cleared this morning. They aren't all bad; although I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of her.

There are over 60,000 solicitors practising in the UK, so the amount struck off, make up 0.00075% of them. I think thats pretty good to be honest.
